  2. James Eoin (James Owen)

  3. Aaron Alexander

  4. Stephen Braydon

  5. Leonard Mason

  6. Jeffrey Stephen

For Girls we have the following picked out

  1. Audrey Ellen

  2. Clodagh Brennan (Claudia Brennen)

  3. Brigid Adora

  4. Sarah Jane

  5. Elizabeth Catarina

  6. Clodagh Aideen

  7. Adrian Brigid

  8. Summer MiKayla

I want an Irish name for my child. My heritage means a lot to me. What do you think of the names? Which do you like best?

Your child will probably have some problems with the Irish spellings (if your profile is right and you live in South Carolina), but if that's not going to bother you and your partner and you're not worried about your child having to correct people often, even those names are pretty solid. Some of the names you picked are pretty trendy and unexpected-- I don't really don't like Adrian for a girl (Adrienne is fine by me) and MiKayla really doesn't seem to fit with some of the other names you picked, nor does Summer.

My favourites if yours are
Liam Jeffrey
James Eoin/Owen
Audrey Ellen
Brennan (I really like Brennan for a boy)
Brigid (I like Brigit [bruh-geet])
Sarah Jane (plain but sturdy)
Catarina

I didn't expect to like Aideen or Adora, but I sort of do.

Agreed, I live in SC, and the stupid abounds. One woman actually laughed out loud because my son is named Rowan. I guess she'd never heard it before.

OP: I always thought giving a child an incredibly difficult name to spell/pronounce was cruel. If you insist on using your child to honor your heritage, there are TONS of beautiful Irish names to choose from. But to be honest, most people are going to find it humorous to hear a very Irish name on a kid with a Southern accent.

I like Liam more than James, but I hate Jeffrey, so for boys, I like James Eion the best. For girls, Brigid Adora.

And I did mean to spell Eoin correctly. Sorry 'bout that.

I like Steven (with a v) and Jeffrey of your boys names. I also love James, but think of it as a middle. Owen James would be lovely.

I prefer Claudia spelled that way. I like Elizabeth, though not with Catarina as I feel its too long. Elizabeth Jane is beautiful, though.

I really like:

Liam Jeffrey
James Eoin (James Owen)
Aaron Alexander

Elizabeth Catarina
Adrian Brigid (spelt Adrienne)
Summer MiKayla (spelt Michaela)

My favourites are probably James Eoin & Elizabeth Catarina

My favorite of the boys as they are is Aaron Alexandra, my favorite boy combos using all those names would be Eoin Liam or Liam Alexander.

My favorite of your girls: Clodagh Brennan, though I also really like Brigid Adora. My best combo would probably be Audrey Clodagh would flow better. Sarah Jane is a character in the Doctor Who series, and I really prefer MiKayla spelled Michala.

Best wishes for TTC!

Since I can't edit

That is obviously meant to Aaron Alexander (My daughter is named Alexandra so I'm not surprised I missed that error).

I can understand wanting to honour your heritage, but if you give your kid a super Irish name like 'Clodagh', and you live outside of Ireland, no one is EVER going to pronounce it right, or spell it right. It just seems like it would be really annoying, for both you and her. I would suggest going with something like 'Clodagh' for the middle name, because then you can honour your heritage, and at the same time you won't have to deal with the spelling/pronunciation issues all the time.

Anyway, I really like most of these names. James Eoin and Aaron Alexander are great. I love Audrey Ellen, Brigid Adora, and Elizabeth Catarina, and Sarah Jane is pretty adorable. I don't like Adrian for a girl - I prefer Adriana, or Adrienne. I like Summer, but not MiKayla - Michaela is the traditional spelling, and looks much more... refined, I guess.

Adrian and Brennan are boys names. Adrian should be Adrienne/Adrianne for a girl.

Clodagh is pronounced Clo-da.

I really wish people in America wouldn't name their kids Celtic/Welsh names that are hard to spell/pronounce.

When you get it right, it's pretty. But the majority of the time your child is going to be called "Clod-agg" and they're going to need to correct EVERY ONE for the next 80 years. At every doctor's appointment, every new teacher, every person that calls the house without hearing it pronounced, first. You name it.

It's no fun. It's saddling a kid with unfairness right out of the gate and leaving them saddled with BS for the rest of their life.

^IAWTC. I'm all for honoring one's heritage, but if you plan to raise your children in a country where their names will be constantly pronounced terribly wrong, I'd think twice. There are many names that can honor your heritage that are easier to pronounce in the US.

As someone who has to spell her ENTIRE name for every single person she meets, I'd give the child an Irish middle name and a more pronounceable, spellable first name. It still honors your heritage and lessens the chances of your kid resenting the name.

For boys, I really like James, Aaron and Liam, and then Alexander and Stephen. My favourite combination of yours is probably Aaron Alexander.

For girls, I like Audrey and Elizabeth, and I kind of like Brigid too. Of the middle names I like Catarina the best. My favourite combination is Elizabeth Catarina, and I also like Brigid Adora.

I think you should spell the names how you see fit. I understand where people are coming from when they say the child will have to spell it their wholes lives but my sister's last name is Smith and she still has to spell that for people and people mispronounce it as Smythe. It doesn't matter what name you give a child, someone will always spell it wrong or pronounce it funny.

I really really despise when people use a traditional irish name and spell it phonetically or a way that will be easier to pronounce (I know a Shivorn 0_O). If you want to stay true to your heritage then you shouldn't let other people's ignorance stop you from doing so.

i get what you're saying, but having people (including relatives and people you've known for most of your life) constantly mispronouncing your name really, really sucks.

when introducing myself, i'll say: hi, i'm hana.
and 90% of the time, people will say: oh, nice to meet you hannah.

:(

I love Brennan on a boy, and I also love Elizabeth and Clodagh, which I'm certain is pronounced clo-da. I like Irish names - one of my favourites is Fionnuala, and I'd use them if I didn't have a few other names I liked a lot more. I think there will always be people who misspell/misprounounce names no matter what they are.

I like Sarah Jane the best, and Audrey Ellen is lovely.

Adrian, however, is a boy's name. Adrienne is ok, just not my style.

1. Liam Jeffrey - i like liam, but it's becoming very, very popular.

2. James Eoin - i like this one the best, but hope you don't call him jamie, jim, or jimmy. =/

3. Aaron Alexander - i like alexander, but not aaron.

4. Stephen Braydon - blah. it's okay, but kind of boring imo.

5. Leonard Mason - i like mason, but not alexander

6. Jeffrey Stephen - i'm not a big fan of either name.

1. Audrey Ellen - pretty, but audrey, too, is becoming very popular.

2. Clodagh Brennan - i would avoid using clodagh as a first name. no one will know how to pronounce it. =/ maybe use it as a middle? i always associated brennan with a boy, but it could work as a middle name. a nice alternative could be brynn too.

3. Brigid Adora - i like this. i know not many people like adora, but i think it's very pretty.

4. Sarah Jane - kind of bland. i love jane though.

5. Elizabeth Catarina - quite a mouthful! but i think it sounds fine.

6. Clodagh Aideen - see #2

7. Adrian Brigid - this works. i would spell adrian as adrienne though. usually adrian/adrien is used for males, while adrienne is used for females. idk.

8. Summer MiKayla - it sounds kind of trashy. =/ sorry. summer is okay, but i'm not really a big fan of it. and i hate mikayla..especially spelled like that.
