Meanings and Names...
Aug. 3rd, 2008 08:43 amdo you find people often match the meanings of their names? or not?
Ceilidh was essentially named "party" and she grow up hating them and still dislikes crowds and loud places..
Im named Giselle after the ballet, and well, am not dancey at all. lol.
My mother teaches a boy called Sage and says he is anything but... (funny cos i always thought of this as a plant name, but its also a virtue name too!).
Im hoping that Finicky (finn nicholas) would be a good eater. and seren (dipity) wouldnt rely on chance too much. lol.
dunno. Thoughts?

Date: 2008-08-02 11:13 pm (UTC)I do tend to choose/prioritise/eliminate names based on meaning - but I choose meanings of things I want my child to have or to admire rather than to be. Example, my daughter's middle name Salome (She was named after Queen Salome Alexandra) and my top girl first name Irena (after Irena Sendler) both mean 'peace'. I don't mean I want a peaceful child, but I wish for my child to find peace and see peace as a virtue. While these may be obvious, I came from a chaotic home so I hope any peace I can give my children will help :)
I still have names which I just love the sound of but have odd meanings - Rufina means 'red-haired' and while I would love a child to get Daddy's auburn locks and to love having them, I just love the 'Roo' sound...

I don't really pay attention to meanings.

Date: 2008-08-03 06:31 am (UTC)I was a surprise to my parents, I rarely rebel, and I'm not bitter about much. I'm also not a month :P

Date: 2008-08-03 11:09 am (UTC)I'm Jessica and by some interpretations it means "God is watching over me", but I'm an atheist, so if he is, I don't know about it! lol
My partner is Alessandro, but he's not too much of a "mankind's protector", he pretty much does his own thing. Not a philantrope nor a warrior, nope.
My dad's name is Stefano, which means "laurel crown", but he never went to college!
My mom's Janis and no one really knows for sure what it means. If it has to do with the god Janus, then well done, she was born in January!
My girlfriends are Sara (princess, yes, quite one of them, she won't lift a finger ever) and Elena (meaning "light", which matches her long gold hair).
