[identity profile] moobiewons.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I met a family with a set of twins today.
The girl was named Harley, the boy was named Quinn. Now, I love Batman a lot and Harley is one of my favorite characters, but this is just a bit....
What do you guys think? (I dislike it but then again I also dislike Harley and Quinn as first names in general. Esp. Harley for a girl).
Note: I am unsure if the parents were Batman fans or not so possibly it could have just been an unforseen slight, or it could have been intended.

At least it wasn't twin boys named Bruce and Wayne.

^ EL OH EL. =DDDD

I swear I'm not enough of a Batman freak to do that probably.

And as to the topic, I love the character, but not too much on either name (though Quinn is better), and together they are WAY too much with the Batman.

Don't know about Batman - but all I see is Harlequin which makes me think romance novels...Warhammer 40K... things I do not want associated with tiny babies.

in batman, harley quinn is the name of this character who is in love with the joker or something, it's supposed to be like harlequin.

all batman and split-word conotations aside, I would have put Harley on the boy, and Quinn on the girl. (if those were my options, I mean. I'd never actually use harley on a kid, and Quinn isn't way at the top of my list either.)

Same here. I don't like either of them, but Harley for a girl?

A Harlequin is a court jester, so while it's possibly HarleyQuinn was intended, it might not have been Batman related.

Also the Harlequin Romance novels. :D

Kevin Smith, the director, has a daughter named Harlee Quinn. I guess it could always be worse.

I know a little girl who's name is Harley-Anne, but goes by Harley. Her Dad's a biker. Hm *rolls eyes*

It makes me laugh, but they're not god awful. :)
Probably because I'm a pretty big Batman fan.

Whoo Batman. I'd only use fan-names as middle names, though

i love quinn, but more so for a girl. i'm not a huge fan of harley, but it could be worse. it just sounds very masculine to me.

Well I'm a pretty big batman fan but I think naming your kids after one of the psychotic villains is a bit too far. I'd be amused but not thinking it was horrid if they were Bruce and Wayne or named after batgirl or one of the Robins or something...

Also what does it say about me that I saw the names and Batman and Commedia dell'arte both came to mind at the same time? lol

I don't much like them anyway - although possibly partly because an online writer I read has a character called Quinn the mushroom man and I wouldn't be able to resist calling the kid that instead of just Quinn.

The funny thing is that the Robins and Batgirl all work - even Carrie Kelly works.

... Now I'm going to spend all day thinking of comic book character names that work for children. D=

I hate Quinn, completely, on either gender, and I'm not really a fan of Harley either. Odds are, most people won't get the reference, but it just kind of makes those who do smile.

I honestly can't say that I wouldn't name twin boys Clark and Lex, so I guess I'm just as bad.

Um... Harlequin romance novels is all I see. Tacky as heck imo.

I hate comic book related stuff, so I would have never thought it was from Batman.

But anyway, I hate the name Harley, it sounds too trashy and/or tacky.

I was almost SURE that my cousin was going to name a child Harley Quinn. She didn't, but the names she chose were equally bizzare.
