[identity profile] drunkontea.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I thought you guys might get a kick out of this:

The sad thing is, I've seen so many horrible names on this community, all I did was shake my head.

Even Leeroy would be better than most on that list, and it's atrocious.

I would not want to be the woman who had to birth something named "Thunderhorn". That just sounds painful.

Can someone please explain to me what the OBSESSION with this "game" is??? I cannot wrap my brain around it.

And yes...please name your kid "Al'Aquir Thunderaan" but call him something brilliant like "Al." Oh, I do not envy his wife.

Wordy McWord. There are some people on my flist who are obsessed with it, and it frankly creeps me out. =/ Also, that screencap is why it creeps me out.

It just depends on the person if it's an obsession or not. It's a hobby, just like anything else. Some people shop, some play sports, some play computer games. I don't see anything wrong with it-I play it, but I'm not addicted to it

From: [identity profile] lovetokate.livejournal.com
Ahh...it just seems I don't personally know anyone who is just like, "Yeah...WoW is cool." Everyone I know who plays, it's like their priority in life.

Date: 2008-07-31 11:15 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] orbg.livejournal.com
Yeah but I'm sure you also know people who see shopping as a way of life, or partying, or whatever. People just tend to give computer games, especially WoW, a bad rap that it doesn't necessarily deserve. It's not the first hobby that has addicted people/ruined lives, etc.

Well, you've just met 1 =) My husband and I play it for fun, that's all.

Seriously, I'd like to know too. My brother, cousin, and several of their friends literally got addicted. Lost their jobs, etc, because they were so addicted they would call out of work to play. My brother is 21, has no license, lives with my mom, and never leaves his room. He sits in there all day every day playing it. And I went to school with a LOT of kids (10+ of them) who were/now are like this. It's very weird... I'll never understand it.

You know you have a bad addiction when you start naming your children after your game characters...

Don't mean to ofend but I meant that if you're actually going to name your child(ren) an atrocious and/or ridiculous name (like those that guy is considering), then it's a probably a bad addiction. As long as it's normal name (like Leon), then I won't see it being a problem with naming your child(ren) after game character(s).

There are some really cool NPC's in the lore of the game-however, he seemed to skip over all of those...

I was intrigued by the old time stamp on this, so I did a search on the WoW forums, but wasn't able to track this down. Did you see this post yourself, or find it another way?

good lord. Pretty much every WoW fan I know, is a complete freak about it and wastes their life away playing it, so I just hope to God I do not end up dating someone like that. But I also would never ever back down and allow him to name our kid after a game character, unless I already liked the name and it just happened to also be a game character.

My husband wants to use his character's name as a middle name for a future son. While I think "Guhn" is a perfectly fine name for a giant cow in a skirt (Tauren Shaman), it's a bit much for a baby in a romper suit.

Grim Batol? Grim Battle? What a great baby name.

This guy is nuts. The names are bad but what I find really scary is this: "...my wife was very against this originally...but I finally BROKE HER DOWN..."

WTH??? What a great guy. I hope my husband breaks me down while I am pregnant and them names our kid Orgee Asshammer.

I made my boyfriend (an addicted WoW player) read this and he said "Leeroy Jenkins hands down!" :P (because the character is a tough one).

I picked Morgan Ladimore lol

Geez, this reminds me of when Space Mutiny was on "Mystery Science Theater" and Mike and the 'bots came up with names for the big, dumb, built hero of the film.

Big McLargehuge
Punch Rockgroin
Bolt van der Huge
Fridge Largemeat
Slab Bulkhead
