[identity profile] erikalyn.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
So I found out this week that I'm pregnant again, due in April, so it's ridiculously early to start looking at baby names but I'm obsessed and can't help myself.

What I have so far:

Girls
Aria
Ginger
Maëlle
Nova
Ophelia
Tilly

Boys
Memphis
Oakley
Sevran

My boyfriend hasn't given too much insight on names he likes other than Phoenix and Summer, both of which I quickly vetoed.

My daughter's name is Stella Marie, so I'm looking for name suggestions that would go well with that, similar in style to the other names I like.

TIA :)

Congratulations! :>) I really like the name Nova. Tilly would be a nice nickname for Matilda.

Congrats!

I like Nova and Ginger.

I really like Aria and Ophelia, and I think they work well with Stella. Ginger is alright, and you can at least get Ginny our of it, and Maelle also isn't bad. I don't like Tilly or Nova and I do not think they pair well with Stella.

I don't like any of your boys' names, sorry.

I automatically thought Stella & Nova were great together, perhaps because Stella means 'star' Nova means 'New' and supernova is a type of star.

/meh, i'm a science nerd.

Pfft... I was going on the star trip, too, haha. Nova and Stella, or Aria and Stella, which sounds very musical.

Congrats!

I love Tilly as a nn for Matilda, but I'm not sure if Matilda goes with Stella. Ophelia is my favorite out of your bunch, and it goes with Stella. Nova and Stella are way too much for a sibset; I wouldn't use them together. Ginger is kind of cute but NMS. I dislike the other names.

Suggestions:

Sadie
Amelia
Greta
Phoebe

Walter
Tobias
Emory
Adrian

I think Stella and Tilly sound really nice together. I'm not really sure about the boys' names though.

Congrats! Don't be so quick to veto his ideas though, you don't want to make him not want to share his ideas!
I like Aria, and Ophelia. Not a big fan of the others.

Congrats!
I love the name Phoenix, but I can see why some people wouldnt.
My Kitten's name is Memphis, he was named after Nic Cages Charactor in "Gone in 60 seconds" I like it, It sounds cool, but I dont think it would make a good name on a human lol.

I love Aria!

Ginger is way way way too stripper-y. I like Aria and Ophelia, and Tilly is okay as a nickname. With Stella, I think Aria sounds best. As for boys, I like Oakley. Memphis and Sevran are way too ugh for me and they don't sound at all similar in style to Stella.

Stella and Aria would be interesting because they're both two italian nouns that both refer to the sky, Stella is "star" and Aria is "air" :)

Tilly is a great nickname for Matilda (and variations) :)

I like the names on your list but Maelle really, really stands out for me.

I like Memphis for a boy.

I don't like any of the boys names, sorry. For girls, I like Ophelia, and Nova and Aria are okay. I like Maelle, but it would probably result in chronic misspellings/mispronunciations. I like Tilly, only as a nickname for Matilda. It's too cutesy on its own. Ginger unfortunately sounds like an aging stripper.

I think Stella and Ophelia go really well together...

I'm due in early april and already looking for names too! So far...nothing. It took us so long to agree on our son's name. HE wasn't named until 3 days before he was born.

I like Ophelia. Maybe you could incorporate Phoenix as a middle name.

I used to love Oakley so much, for a girl though. I like Nova for girls, and Memphis for boys. A friend of mine loves the name Memphis a lot.

Congratulations, again!

I lovee Ophelia with a massive massive passion.

I also like Aria & Nova, but don't really like any shortenings that come with either.

Ginger & Tilly are incredibly ugly, but Milly is like Tilly, short for Amelia which I love and you mght like as it's similar to Ophelia. :-D

I can't warm to any of you boy names I'm afraid, but Sevran is the best of the bunch.

Aria - pretentious unless everyone you know goes to the opera obsessively
Ginger - good time girl, but possible for a strong character to transcend
Maelle - um, male...
Nova - the air of a sanitary protection brand name
Ophelia - bad associations in terms of both Hamlet and pedophilia
Tilly - sweet and inoffensive
Memphis - WTF
Oakley - pompous and a bit weird
Sevran - just NO

Stella Marie is good so hopefully this list is just a blip on a long road to a good name. Keep vetoing. And congrats.

Stella Marie is beautiful.
I think Ophelia would go best with Stella, but I prefer Aria, it's very pretty.

I don't really like your boys names, however. Memphis sounds cool, but I don't actually like the city...I have that problem with place names.

These are my faves:

Aria
Nova
Tilly
Memphis

I love Nova, and I think it sounds great with Stella. I can't believe you are having another! It will be fun to consider names for next few months, because you have great taste. Best wishes :)

PS Could we see some pictures of Stella?

I think Aria, Ophelia, and Maëlle all sound really good with Stella! :o) I actually really like Tilly too, but I wouldn't use it by itself...probably as a nickname for Matilda, which I also think would sound good with Stella.

I just don't like any of your boys' names. Sorry.

Some suggestions that I think could also sound good with Stella:

Amelia - nickname Millie or Mia? I think Mia sounds good with Stella!
Tallulah
Lois
Sadie - I really like this one as a nickname for Mercedes, but I can see it as a good name by itself, too.
Lacey
Arielle
Cambria - I knew someone with this name, and she went by Cammy. I thought it was cute!
Moira
Calley - I like it as a nickname for Calliope, but I know someone with this name...not short for anything...and I really like it on her.
Audra
Scotia
Emily or Amelie - With the nickname Emmy or Aimee? I think they're both cute...
Lucy
Susie - Short for Susan, Susannah, etc.
Laney
Skye - Ok, maybe that's too matchy. Haha.
Linnea
Andi
Alix - Feminine form of Alex. I've always liked it.
Sally
Dagny
Tori - I know someone who goes by this...short for Victoria. But I think it could be nice as a name in and of itself. Think Tori Amos. ;o)
Maura
Gemma
Josephine, nickname Jo or Josie - One of my all-time favorites!!

Some boys names I think would sound good with Stella, since I poo-pooed yours:

Jonas - I've always liked this name because of the associations to the book The Giver. Although, with the Jonas Brothers phenomenon these days, it's probably going to get popular now...or at least people will associate the name with them.
Dean
Tavish
Tobin or Toben - One of my all-time favorites!!
Gavin
Brennan
Brent
Soren
Simon
Sian
Seth - I don't know how you feel about matching first letters...but I like them so I'm suggesting lots of "S" names, haha.
Warren
Marshall
Hamish
Athan

Hmm...I'm not sure what else you'd like, since the boys' names you put out there are really not my style at all. I'll let you know if I can think of anything else!

Nova really just makes me think of the show, and I think the star (supernova) connection to Stella is too close for comfort. Aria is a great name (it was the top favorite of an ex-boyfriend, which is pretty much why I'd never consider using it now, hah), and I think Stella and Aria would be a very nice sibset. Ginger could work, but it sounds very cutesy next to Stella. Same with Tilly, and personally, I would eliminate Tilly and Maëlle so as not to repeat the double l's in both of the names.
