WDYT of the girl's name Asha?
It means "hope" or "wish", which I really like. Could this name be used on a baby that isn't Indian without any odd looks from people?

Thanks for opinions!:]

(ETA: btw, in case any of you are wondering, I would prononce it "ASH-ah")

To me, it has always sounded like a mispronunciation of the boy's name Asher. I don't think it's obviously Indian enough to be a problem, but I don't like it.

Asha is to close to Aisha/Aaisha for me, and I can't really see it on a white baby. It's pretty though. But I think I'd be really cautious about using it. Maybe you could use it as a middle or maybe go with Tasha/Natasha instead?

I had never heard it before, so I wouldn't have known that it was Indian. My guess is that most people wouldn't know that it was Indian to begin with. Yeah, I think that it's kind of pretty.

i knew a girl named asha but she pronounced it ah-sha. i don't really like it, though. nothing about it appeals to me.

It doesn't seem obviously Indian, especially if you pronounce the ASH like the first syllable of Ashley. I like it.

I'm not especially fond of it. I didn't realize it was an Indian name; I don't think it has an obviously Indian sound to it. As such, I don't think it would seem out of place on a baby that wasn't Indian (unless you were IN India and it looked like the parents' attempt to make their foreign child fit in).
