(no subject)

Catherine, Katherine, Catharine, Katharine, Kathryn or Cathryn?

Which do you prefer? Any specific reason?

CathErine!

Regards,
Catherine

i like Catharine. not sure why, just like the way it looks:-)

[identity profile] invisiblegirl4.livejournal.com 2006-02-26 10:18 am (UTC)(link)
Same here!

[identity profile] dingo83.livejournal.com 2006-02-26 07:21 am (UTC)(link)
I don't really like that name, but if I had to choose, Kathryn, because that's the way the youngest Katherine I know spells her name. As far as the most common/original spelling, I think that's Katherine.

[identity profile] smasharash.livejournal.com 2006-02-26 07:26 am (UTC)(link)
I don't like the rame, but I much prefer it with a K. I don't really know why, I just think it looks better.
I'd go for Katherine or Kathryn.

[identity profile] mamasjoy.livejournal.com 2006-02-26 07:30 am (UTC)(link)
I really prefer Catherine, but that's because I tend to go for the more traditional, old-fashioned names and spellings.

[identity profile] jenniferdunn.livejournal.com 2006-02-26 08:38 am (UTC)(link)
Kathryn

[identity profile] ouronlylight.livejournal.com 2006-02-26 09:12 am (UTC)(link)
Katherine. I don't like it with a C - it looks... weak, or something. The K makes it look stronger to me.

[identity profile] elemmennope.livejournal.com 2006-02-26 09:23 am (UTC)(link)
Catherine

Katherine feels a bit musty and dated to me. I don't know why this is, when it's probably used more and equally if not more classic, but there it is.

Catharine/Katharine just look wrong.

Cathryn/Kathryn break my no weird tryndee random Y spellings. I hate those.

Catherine makes me think of Wuthering Heights and other great literature. Also, Katherine shortens easier to Kate or Katie. As I prefer Catherine in it's full form, this seems like the spelling more likely to be left alone and not assumed to be Cate/Catie. YOu just don't see C spelling nns as much.

[identity profile] secret-x-stars.livejournal.com 2006-02-26 09:33 am (UTC)(link)
Catherine is just the spelling i'm used to, because of my little cousin.

but Kathryn's pretty nice, too.

[identity profile] babyalligator.livejournal.com 2006-02-26 09:43 am (UTC)(link)
catherine is my preference, but i don't like the shortened version as cate. i like Kate. go figure!

[identity profile] imyourrapunzel.livejournal.com 2006-02-26 09:48 am (UTC)(link)
I like Catherine. I think it looks the most sophisticated.

[identity profile] krazyhippie.livejournal.com 2006-02-26 09:50 am (UTC)(link)
Didn't we just do a poll with this?

[identity profile] krazyhippie.livejournal.com 2006-02-26 11:42 am (UTC)(link)
No, I specifically remember voting for Kathryn. It's not a big deal, just pointing it out in case you want to go back and get the stats from that poll or something.

[identity profile] krazyhippie.livejournal.com 2006-02-26 09:50 am (UTC)(link)

[identity profile] bellisima87.livejournal.com 2006-02-26 10:12 am (UTC)(link)
I used to like Katharine the most but today Catherine/Katherine/Catharine/Katharine/Cathryn look so wrong to me..

Kathryn looks the best.. but actually, I'd go for Katryn.. without the h.

[identity profile] iwanttobemyself.livejournal.com 2006-02-26 10:16 am (UTC)(link)
Kathryn...not a big fan of it spelled with C's, i's or e's. :) plus it looks to me like it's spelled the same as it sounds.

[identity profile] quiet-recluse.livejournal.com 2006-02-26 10:25 am (UTC)(link)
Catherine because all the Catherines I know spell it that way.

[identity profile] anapology.livejournal.com 2006-02-26 10:52 am (UTC)(link)
Cathryn.
I know it's a little odd & fussy but i don't particuarly like the name- i really don't like the letter K that much & i think it looks quite pretty...

[identity profile] seren.livejournal.com 2006-02-26 11:35 am (UTC)(link)
I think I prefer Katherine. Not sure why :)

[identity profile] bree019.livejournal.com 2006-02-26 11:35 am (UTC)(link)
Catherine. No no no (!) to the "yn"s. Catherine is a regal name and using "yn" (or a, for that matter) cheapens it. Just my opinion.

[identity profile] mountain-nest.livejournal.com 2006-02-26 12:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Any of them, but I personally prefer the look of the K over the C because Catherine tends to look like Catheter to me.

[identity profile] paperboat118.livejournal.com 2006-02-26 12:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Cathryn
Because I dont pronounce the name "Kath-uh-rin" I pronounce it "Kath-rin"
And I really hate K's, so thats why I like Cathryn

[identity profile] thejoysofjess.livejournal.com 2006-02-26 12:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Kathryn.

Because it's shorter. And becuase no one says Kath-er-ine anyway. Though I do usually spell it Katherine when I write it out.

[identity profile] thejoysofjess.livejournal.com 2006-02-26 12:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, and also because I hate when people spell Kate or Katie with a C.

[identity profile] composure.livejournal.com 2006-02-26 02:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Cathryn, because I never pronounce it with three syllables. And K's are ugly.

[identity profile] paperboat118.livejournal.com 2006-02-26 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
EXACTLY!
Amen to you!

[identity profile] kimbee80.livejournal.com 2006-02-26 03:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Kathryn...after all that is my middle name ;D

[identity profile] mommytoella.livejournal.com 2006-02-26 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
ok might sound stupid but most "Catherine's" "Kathryns" go by some form of Kate/Cate, or Katie/Catie.... which form do you like better, should her name get cut short.

If you like C's go with a C form
If you like K's go with a K form.

personally I like Kathryn :)

[identity profile] katie-oo7.livejournal.com 2006-02-26 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Katherine, because I've got three relatives that all spell it that way.

[identity profile] rockstargrrrlie.livejournal.com 2006-02-26 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Katharine, because if I was going to use this name, it would be for Katharine Hepburn.

[identity profile] saragaia.livejournal.com 2006-02-26 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Catherine. It's a beautiful name.

[identity profile] ifancylust.livejournal.com 2006-02-26 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
katherine..although i like cate the best as a nickname.

[identity profile] delusive.livejournal.com 2006-02-26 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm partial to Katherine, Katharine, and Catherine. I prefer traditional spellings like Katherine and Catherine but I also think Katharine is beautiful. I gravitate towards names beginning with K because my name begins with a K.

Great choice on a name no matter what, though. I've always loved the name Katherine.

[identity profile] babyhoyt.livejournal.com 2006-02-27 08:18 am (UTC)(link)
Katharine is just as classic of a spelling. That Henry with all the wives, there were 3 or 4 katherine's right? They all had a different spelling.
And I have ancestors from the early 19th century who spelled it with a K and an A. and so did my mommmy when she named me, but she did it for Katharine Hepburn!

~Katharine

[identity profile] ciara-belle.livejournal.com 2006-02-27 11:19 am (UTC)(link)
Henry VIII of England was the one with all the wives. And yes, there were 3 Catherines. Catherine of Aragon (although, I imagine her parents would have used the Spanish), Kathryn (Katherine) Howard (I read somewhere that's how she signed her name) and Catherine Parr (I've seen hers written with C and with K).

There were also two Annes and a Jane. ^^

Personally, I like Katherine or Kathryn.

[identity profile] krosp.livejournal.com 2006-02-26 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
haha after reading this thread all the spellings look weird now :p

I prefer Catherine usually, but every now and then go through Katherine moods. Today I am in a Katherine mood. I like Kate with a K and probably would spell it that way even if shortening from Catherine

[identity profile] iljjc.livejournal.com 2006-02-27 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
Katherine, although I don't mind Catherine either. Just prefer the K for some reason.

I agree with what some others have said about not pronouncing it with three syllables, but Cathryn/Kathryn just looks odd to me.

Everyone I've known with the name spelled it Cathryn, which, ironically, is my least favourite spelling of it.

Kinda funny though, when I think of what someone with the name might be like, each spelling brings to mind a different personality type.

[identity profile] home-to-me.livejournal.com 2006-02-27 08:10 am (UTC)(link)
Katherine. I think the K is prettier. I don't know WHY... I just have this image in my head that K's make names more girly? *shrugs* But it's funny, because I like Cate as a nickname, not Kate.

[identity profile] cathkitten.livejournal.com 2006-02-27 11:28 am (UTC)(link)
Catherine! Because it's my name!

I think its the most classic of all the versions of the name.

[identity profile] georgey629.livejournal.com 2006-02-27 02:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Either Catherine or Katherine. I prefer the more traditional spellings, but I constantly change my mind.

[identity profile] chaoticblues.livejournal.com 2006-02-27 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
my boyfriend's mother's name is Kaethryn
