Probably because of the pronunciation of Leticia. But yeah, it rhymes with Pita, too. http://www.dooce.com's daughter is named Leta, pronounced that way, and she's named after someone who also pronounced it that way. I can't find it on any baby names sites with a pronunciation, but that's the only way I've ever heard it, and I know (I think?) four women who pronounce it that way.
