Jul. 25th, 2008 12:08 pmShasta (pronounced shas-tah)
Shiri (pronounced sheer-ee)
WDYT? It's not a sibset or anything, it's just two names that I've heard before and was wondering what people thought about them. I think that Shasta is unisex, though I knew it on a girl. Shiri is a girl's name.
Shasta is kind of different; I remember the first time that I heard someone say it and how weird I thought it was then, but now I like that it's different. I think that Shiri is pretty.

And I don't like Shiri. It seems made up or a nickname for something longer.

Date: 2008-07-25 04:50 pm (UTC)I knew someone named Shiri. Everyone was always calling her Sherry. I'm not partial to it, but since I associate it with her, I dislike it even more.

Date: 2008-07-25 06:46 pm (UTC)Shiri seems like a bastardization or Sherry and doesn't flow off the tongue well.

Date: 2008-07-26 03:34 pm (UTC)I had a little girl named Shiri in one of my classes when I used to teach swimming lessons, and I always thought it was such a lovely sounding name. It's a Hebrew/Israeli name, and it means "my song". Her family came here from Israel a few years ago. Her brother's name was Ori, which I also liked...it means "my light". I think their parents were good at picking out names. :o)
