[identity profile] twitchywoman.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames

I work at a grocery store and always look at people's checks to see if they have any interesting names listed.  Some that I have encountered are Edris and Cresent both female.
Also I found a couple on Facebook (can't really remember who we have a connection with) and they mentioned their three daughters in their profile.  The parents are named Josh and Natashia.  The daughters are Hailey Lynn, Makayla Maureen and Brianna Jo.
And another name I saw today Nevaia.  I unfortunately saw it in the obituaries and I assumed that there was an old lady named Nevaia and had beat the trend by decades, but it turned out to be for a 9 week old baby.

I used to do that with the credit receipts at work too, check out the names.

Love Hailey Lynn and Brianna Jo. Makayla Maureen is too alliterative, but I kinda like Makayla by itself (but it's too close to my sister's name Kayla.)

Aw that's sad about baby Navaia. It kind of defeats the point of the name though, spelling it like that. Although that's a LOT better than when people spell it Neveah.

No- not Neveah ... it's meant to be Nevaeh :p
That's why I was saying.. at least Nevaia is better than Neveah... because it's meant to be Heaven backwards. If they spell it Nevaia, it kind of defeats the point of the name because it's no longer heaven backwards.. but at least it's obviously deliberate, unlike Neveah which looks like someone tried to spell heaven backwards and failed.

I know you didn't say anything about the spelling... but my original post was just pointing out that some people spell Nevaeh as Neveah, and then it's actually Haeven backwards, so they look really stupid... whereas at least Nevaia obviously isn't meant to be anything backwards even though it defeats the point of the name. I THINK they're meant to be the same name... at least, I assume they are. I have heard Nevaeh pronounced as "nuh-VAY-uh" but I think there might be other pronunciations too. Nevaia could be pronounced any of the same ways as Nevaeh which is why I'm assuming it's meant to be the same name.

That's sad about the baby.

Once when I was working retail, I met an older gentleman who was just blown away by my name-- his mother's name was Meredith as well and he'd never met another and was surprised to see it on a younger person (guess he's not up to snuff with contemporary media; it's still uncommon, but gaining popularity). After he left, I glanced at his credit card receipt-- we had the same last name as well! So weird.
