My name's Samantha and I want to name my (distant) future daughter Tabitha. 
Do you think people will see the Bewitched reference, which I'm NOT aiming for, or is that show so old, that by the time I have a daughter, the people who do get it will be so few and far between that it shouldn't be an issue?

i would have never thought of it with just her name.. but with your names together.. i immediately thought.. aw, bewitched!!!

but if you love the name dont let it sway you... i named my son maddox.. and it was right when angelina adopted maddox.. i had no idea.. and i found the name on my own because i love mandi and maddy going together... alot of people used to ask me if it was after angelinas kid and i would get so mad.. then i learned to just say.. *hahah, NOPE*

I'm only 18 and I instantly thought "Oh, Bewitched?" before I even read the rest of the post. If you hadn't mentioned the show (IE: if I just met you and your kids somewhere) I would probably think it was just a coincidence though.

kids her age probably wouldn't get it, but their parents might. I don't think it's an awful association. she'll probably get more tabbycat jokes than "witch" jokes. :)

I used to watch the show on Nick at Nite all the time, and I didn't notice the reference at first. So I'd imagine you wouldn't hear much about it.

The show is already decades old, but repeats go on forever. There will always be people who go, Oh hay. Always.

But, probably by the time you actually have a daughter you'll have forgotten all about this idea, so I wouldn't worry.

I know pretty much all of my friends would get the Bewitched connection. That's what I thought of too. While the show is decades old, it is a classic and will bound to be played on TV for years to come.

I mean there was a gym teacher at my school named Tony who had a daughter named Samantha, and while I get the Who's The Boss? connection (mostly because I'm the biggest fan ever), most people wouldn't because the names are pretty common. Tabitha though isn't very common so I think it would be associated with Bewitched quite a bit.

I totally got it, as I grew up watching TV Land. I don't really like the name Tabitha, but I don't think it's too big of a deal for you to use it, even if people do see the connection. If you're close to my age (I'm 19) you could always feign negligence.

I got it, because I'm only 19 but I used to watch reruns on the Deja View channel, or whatever it was called, but I don't think it's bad at all, and like others have said, it's not like the names are totally out there or exclusive to the show.

Just about every name out there is going to have some sort of an association with something else. It's a big world.

That being said, I wouldn't associate Tabitha with Bewitched, and even if people do -- is it really a bad association?

I'm closer to having a baby than you (probably) and Tabitha is what I love for a girl's name too. So I think it's fine. :D Since your name is Samantha, people will probably still think Bewitched (which will always be in reruns somewhere), but I doubt it will be too much of an issue. You may have to make a few jokes, though. Don't let it hold you back if you love the name Tabitha, just don't marry a man named Darren!

Ehm, I'm 24 and when I see Samantha and Tabitha together I totally think of Bewitched. However, I don't think it's a bad thing. That show was hilarious!
