some awful names for your consideration
Jul. 23rd, 2008 12:05 pmI was watching "Babies: Special Delivery" yesterday (which I shouldn't do cuz it freaks me out!) and there was a black women giving birth to her baby. Her name was Ebony, which is bad enough, but she named her baby Ivory. Daddy was white, so the baby's skin color was pretty pale. She was having all these interventions and I just kept saying "She named her Ivory??"
Also, my co-worker told me today her mom knew a woman who claims she saw a sign from God during her labor and named the baby after that. She named him:
Nonsmo King
Can you guess what her sign from God was??
I swear...

Date: 2008-07-23 04:17 pm (UTC)I'm so going to name my child Hospit Alperson Nellonly.
Hmm.. when cruising from hospital to bigger fancier hospital by ambulance (on morphine), I started laughing like a maniac at the juxtaposition of the 'blood' and 'bags' signs. My nurse thought I was insane, but at least I didn't name my daughter that!

There was a girl at my elementary school named Ebony, last name Gay. She was African American, and I'd overhear people teasing her: "Hey, you ARE ebony--so you must be gay, too! HAHAHAHAHAH!" Then they'd probably go knock somebody over and spit on them. Ah, the sweet innocence of childhood...

Date: 2008-07-24 03:12 am (UTC)Also, the girl may be light-skinned now, but my father's best friend is black, and his son was very light-skinned at birth, and now he is quite dark. Plus... idk, there are a lot more subtle ways that they could have referenced her heritage, but... really, in this case, you should not name a baby after it's skin or most would be "Rosie" or "Scarlett" in my case.
