family feud and football

I was watching Family Feud today and there was a male contestant named Maitresse. He pronounced may-treese, and it basically seemed to me like a combination of maître d' and mattress. In other words, pretty bad.

And watching the ESPYs the other day reminded me of Plaxico Burress. Apparently, he was named after his uncle. He has two brothers, Ricardo and Carlos, and a son named Elijah. Contrary to what Eli Manning thought, he was not named after him. Eli's real name? Elisha Nelson. His older brothers are Peyton Williams and Cooper Archibald, after their father.

So, lots of names, what does everybody think? I think that Eli is cute, but not when it's short for Elisha. I know not everybody likes Peyton, but I kind of do, though I consider it a girl's name, so Peyton and Elisha sound like a couple of a sisters to me. Elijah is nice too.

I never would have thought of Elisha as a girl's name. He's a prophet from the Jewish Scriptures, follow-up to Elijah, if I remember correctly.

I never would've thought of it as a boy's name, mainly because of Elisha Cuthbert and it's similarity to Alicia.

I'm German and this one practically sounds like the word Mätresse, which means mistress/concubine, lmao.

oh, and Plaxico does not get better every time I see it. Still one of the weirdest names I've ever heard.

I love the name Elisha. Probably because the one Elisha I ever met was not only really handsome, but he was very sweet, too.

My cousin's daughter is Peyton. I think its adorable on a girl. It doesnt seem like a boyish name to me, even with a football player sharing it.

I agree Eli is a lovely name but I like it for Elijah. I have a friend who's middle name is Elisha and he -haaaaaaaaates- it. It was for the prophet but to him it just sounds like Alysha (or its many variations).

I love Elisha (for the prophet, and pronounced ee-LIE-sha), and I like the name Peyton too, but for a girl. And I have a cousin named Elijah; I like it okay.

I never liked the name Cooper though. It's a surname to me, and giving to to my child is going to make it sound like he has two surnames.
