not really excessive. My brother and I both have two middle nmaes. Mine is hypehanted his isn't. I admit though, it bcomes pretty tedious with a long first and last name...

When you name your kid Frederick Ian David Michael James LastName...it's a bit excessive...and yes i know someone with that name.

Sometimes I think two middle names can help balance a name and make it flow better.

My middle daughter has a two word middle name. All of my girls have ballet terminology middle names, with Serafina's being two words. Serafina en Tournant (insert last name here)

Not my style. But, I think when someone is trying to honor their heritage with the name or it's a tradition in a family....two middle names can be sort of cool.

But I went to school with a girl named Sarah Lauren Ashley LastName and I thought that was just dumb. It was just a big explosion of mid 80's girls names. I do like all of those names, but not shoved into one long name!

Since I've been watching this community, I've realized how the middle name seems important to people, for me it was just a name written on my ID card not to confuse me with someone else who could have the same first name.

Now, to answer your question, I think it's a cultural matter, I know people with 1 and some with 3 or 4, but then again, I'm French so that might not be very useful to you.

I usually do think it's excessive, especially since middle names are rarely even used, for the most part.

One exception that I don't mind is like the middle names of my brother and a cousin of ours ... they each have their father's first name as their first middle name, and our grandfather's first name as their second middle name, and I like that.

I think in a lot of cases, it is, especially when they don't flow. My husband has 2 middle names, one is his mother's maiden name and that strikes me as a bit more reasonable. Basically, I think there should be a good reason for having 2, not just because you thought it was "classy" or couldn't decide between two names and just used them both.

I have two middle names that are hyphenated. I think that as long as they aren't extremely long, and they all go well with eachother then it can look good.

It's also nice for the kid because if they grow up to not like their first name they have 2 other name options they can go by :]

It's pretty normal in the UK to have two middle names, especially for people with a more privileged background.

I don't like it, it seems too excessive to me. However, nobody in my family has two middle names, nor do any of my friends or their siblings. It may not be popular for this area. But, honestly, I've never met anyone with two middles, which is probably why I don't like it much.

As most have said, if there's a reason, I think it's alright, but I just think most two middle name people's names don't flow. As I stated before, probably because I'm not used to it at all.

My hubby has two middle names and HATES it b/c everytime he tries to do something with his drivers license, mortgage, car loan, etc. he has to pick one middle name to use b/c a lot of applications don't let you put more than one down, etc. His name is Clifford (ew I know lol) Ryan Nicholas (last name) and he goes by Ryan, so that's also a pain that he doesnt go by his "first" name. He hates it though. I wanted to name our son with two middles and he said no way just b/c he goes through so much trouble now with them. Just a thought =).

I don't think so, I like two middle names and will probably use two middle names for any son I have since the middle name that I am dead-set on using doesn't really flow with some of the names I like.

My best friend growing up has a sister named Annelise Christine Susan Marie LastName, her parents wanted to name her after the remaining aunts or something, although her four older siblings all have one middle name and her younger brother has two.

I have two middle names, but both my sisters only have one. My middle names being my Aunt's name and my Grandmother's name.
My children will more then likey only have one middle name, unless for some reason I feel the need to honor a family member.

My children are all going to have two middle names, with the exception of our second daughter--she'll have two first names (she can, of course, go by one instead if she wants, but I'll call her by both). They're all names we picked because of meaning or sentimental value, and I think three of the four chosen sets of names flow well. (We're going back and forth over the last.)

I don't think so at all. It's quite common in many cultures, and as long as the names aren't all 3+ syllables long, I think it's fine. I mean, naming your child Alexander Sebastian Jonathan might be a little much, but for instance, I like the name Samuel Michael Ryan and I don't think that's excessive at all.

It can be excessive if the names are too fancy, long, or go badly together, but I think it can work depending on the names. I'm sure I horrified folks by giving my daughter two first names. We're probably not going to continue the double first name thing, that was a special circumstance for our preemie daughter who we felt needed a bit of extra good luck, but might do double middle names. Dunno though, we'll see.

It is a little, but I'm ok with it. I suppose it's because I'm used to one middle name, that's the kind of flow and sound I'm used to.... so hearing two middle names sounds to me like a string of names, rather than *a* name, if that makes sense. Like it's a bit more disjointed and less flowy. But sometimes I like it when people have a specific reason for it, e.g. the person who posted yesterday where the second middle name was a Japanese name. I really like it in that case.

It's nice and I think it flows better than Madeleine Mae.. the double M sounds better broken. Of course, there is the double '-in' sound to consider.

I really enjoy double names. If my cousin wasn't already named Anna, I'd probably name my first daughter Anna Kate as a first name.

Delta Lorraine Jeannette (probably call her Del--these are very sentimental names)

Shea Elliot Anna (again, sentimental, and I always refer to this name as "Shea Elliot")

I have two first names, as well: KellyAnne. Mine, however, was just my parents going, "Hey, these sound good together." I've never been called KellyAnne except when my mom is shocked by something.

That's cute. Double first names work if they're not too long. I like our double name, but it wasn't planned. It was a last minute kind of thing, but I really dislike hyphenated names, so we did two first names.
Our daughter's name was Brenna Rose.

I've only watched it once or twice, not really my kinda show, but on 'Army Wives' there is a woman named Claudia Joy. I cringe every time I hear her name.

I plan to give all my kids two middle names, but they'll be names to honor family members and using two per kid is mostly just an attempt to honor everyone I want to without having 100 kids.

But even if your reason for using two middle names was different, I would still think it was perfectly acceptable. Even though I only have one myself, I'm completely used to the idea of a person having two.

Depends on the execution. I have a friend named Ellen Mary Clare and I think that is sooooo pretty. But she's Catholic, so she had to pick a name when she was confirmed, so now her name is Ellen Mary Clare Grace D___. I think is getting kind of long :D

In the majority of cases, I think one middle name is fine. I plan to give my children only one middle name.

It's common in the South. I had two co-workers last summer named Katherine Ann and Anna Beth. And that's what we called them, no nicknames or anything.

Mine wasn't even that. I rarely had anyone in my classes with the same name (don't know why, my name was relatively common when I was born) and when I did, it was Melissa B and Melissa S or whatever. And I had a whole host of nicknames that people called me by, which helped the situation. The only time I ever heard my middle name was when I got in trouble.
