Ok so here's a good discussion topic...
if it weren't a _________ i would (maybe) name my child ________

my big one is Allegra...i love the name but i would never subject my child to the torture of being named after an allergy medication.

If it weren't a Deadly Sin, I would name my child Avarice.

I'm with you on Allegra- Allegra's Castle was one of my favorite shows and then that damn pill had to come ruin everything.

if it weren't a name containing TH, I would (maybe) name my child Bethany.

But Bethany Mensforth is too much to get past my mouth :p

Blimey. Yes, one to avoid! (And what if she had a cute childhood lithp and thaid Bethany Menthforth?)

If it weren't so DAMN popular I would name my little girl Madison (if it's a girl haha!)
AND
If it weren't for the fact that my husband doesn't like it I would name my baby (if it's a girl again) Aurora.

It it IS a boy... I'm screwed. :-P

haha. It's not fair there's so many nice girls names and not so many boy names!

If it weren't a learning disorder, I would name my child Alexia.

Actually I wouldn't, but I felt the need to reemphasize the point that it's an LD. Too many people don't look into that before they stick it on their kid.

Never heard of Alexia as an LD, heard of dyslexia but not alexia (which is my girl name pick at the moment, lol). What is it?

If it weren't the name of several girls I absolutely detest in real life I would (maybe) name my child Kate. [I know some nice Kate/Katy/Katherines too, and I don't hate the name per se but the utter bitches unfortunately spoilt it for the rest of them, I could not live with one in the house.]

From: [identity profile] thejoysofjess.livejournal.com
I agreed. I'm very annoyed that I currently know one seriously bitchy Caitlin and it's turning me off of the name, even though I love Kate. Though maybe I can get around it with Katelyn, which shortens to Kate better anyway.

i love emma and amelia, but they are so freakin common nowadays, my child will NOT be an emma C.
oh and if it wasnt so comical, id maybe name my child maximus. hahaha. Cause my husband LOVES it and wants to really bad(cause hes a rome nerd). but i can just hear the fat jokes. THEN the condom jokes. haha.

Date: 2006-02-23 04:40 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] anapology.livejournal.com
Oh it sickens me to know Amelia is popular! It totally feels like her name, i can't change it to anything else before she arrives because I would regret it forever- but i feel like i have to because popular names drive me insane.
My brother is called Max (not maximus, thats a bit extreme!) But he doesnt get any condom/fat jokes.

Oh yeah and if it weren't my husband's boss's kid's name I would name a boy Tristan.

If it weren't so popular I'd go with Aiden (but spell it Ayden).

And if our last name wasn't Martin, I'd name a boy Carter.

I guess I have boys names I just can't use any of them!!!

If it weren't the name of the psycho ex-girlfriend before me, the sweet one, THE ONE, we would name a daughter margaret.

If my brother's name wasn't Christian, my husband would name a boy Tristan. But I am not so keen on Tristan anyway, so hahaha, Andy!

If my last name didn't start with a letter "B", I'd name my son:
Breckin (but Breckin B just sounds like a boy band member)
Owen (I can't let my kid have the initials OB, especially a boy)

Or I'd name my daughter:
Delaney (but the "lane" in that sounds too close to a..*ahem*...plus size womens' store with my last name)

If _my last name didn't have a color in it_ I'd name my kid _Robin, Violet, Grayson. Anything with a color implied is out because then it would sound like "Blue Redthing" or "Green Whitething." Bah!

If it wasn't the name of a mental ex girlfriend of his i would use the name 'Ally' for a boy

If i wasn't English & i WAS French i would use the name Amélie, because it only sounds pretty if it's said with the right accent.

If the name Stacy didn't exist I would use the name Anastasia. My hatred of the name Stacy runs deep & i couldnt take the risk of that being used as a n nn.

If it weren't the Spanish word for "no one", I would name my daughter Nadie (pronounced NAH-dee-ay). But I think it would be beyond cruel to give a child a name that means "no one" (she'd probably be seeing psychologists for the rest of her life), and I'm sure that everybody would pronounce it NAY-dee or NAH-dee, so that won't be happening. :(

LOL! That's great!

I like that name too. Everytime I read it on paper, I hear the British dad in the original WW going "Veruca, sweetheart, ANGEL...." when she's screaming at him.

If it wasn't just...too much, I'd name my daughter Pollyanna. I think it's so freaking cute.

If they weren't so popular, I'd name my daughter Emily, Isabelle, or Madeline.

If I could sell my SO on it, I'd name my daughter Summer or Delilah. :)

This is a fun topic!

If it weren't an STD, I think Chlamydia would be such a pretty name!

Alexia, if it weren't a learning disorder, as someone else mentioned,

and Caleb, if it didn't mean "dog".

If it wasn't the spanish version of my name, I would (ABSOLUTELY) name my child Amelia.

-Emily

In fact, I would anyway, but it bothers my fiance. It's my absolute favorite name though, so perhaps I could convince him.

I dont know why you can't do that! I think its lovely. You could call her Amy for short and Amy and Emily don't sound that much alike.
