so it came about b/c of one of my coworkers. she has such a cool voice, feminine but raspy... and she's petite and i was telling her she reminded me of a celebrity (her voice)... so when i IMDB'ed the movie i know the actress most from, i sort of fell-in-like with her name...
Joey Lauren Adams.
that's the same exact voice my coworker has and i adore this actress (i always thought her name was Zoe though)
and.... i dunno... I never thought of using Joey on a girl... WDYT????

Date: 2008-07-11 08:04 pm (UTC)In the same way I kind of like nicknames like Fred(die) and Charlie on girls, but not as full names.

Date: 2008-07-11 08:19 pm (UTC)I actually think it's kind of cute, and with the right middle name and last name, I think it could most definitely be pulled off.
I was just giving you a hard time.
No hard feelings :)

Date: 2008-07-11 09:23 pm (UTC)My best girlfriend's name is Sam. Not Samantha. Just Sam (It's what her birth certificate says) - and honestly - I think if a name matches someone, no one questions it.
My stepmom's name is George. Like Nancy Drew's best friend. No GeorgeAnne, just George. And if I heard the name Sam or George without meeting who they were - i would probably be turned off to the name. But since they are in my life - i couldn't imagine calling them Samantha or GeorgeAnne. The names they were given just fit.
I don't see what the big deal is if someone has the name Joey.
Old or young.

Date: 2008-07-12 09:25 am (UTC)Where I live (The Netherlands) it's normal to give nicknames as full names...mostly because generally we don't have the whole full name - nickname business here. I guess because most Dutch names are very short =)

Date: 2008-07-12 03:25 pm (UTC)I have NEVER EVER used the name, or been called the name Nichole.
It sounds foriegn to me.
They shoud've just ignored everyone and named me Nikki, since that's genuinely my name...I don't ever go by Nichole except for legal purposes.

Date: 2008-07-12 05:04 pm (UTC)I do understand the advantages of a so-called full name (more nickname options, more formal) but if parents want to call their kid Sam instead of Samantha or Nikki instead of Nichole, like with you, I say go for it. Then again...it's common practice where I live, so yeah =)
