so it came about b/c of one of my coworkers. she has such a cool voice, feminine but raspy... and she's petite and i was telling her she reminded me of a celebrity (her voice)... so when i IMDB'ed the movie i know the actress most from, i sort of fell-in-like with her name...

Joey Lauren Adams.

that's the same exact voice my coworker has and i adore this actress (i always thought her name was Zoe though)

and.... i dunno... I never thought of using Joey on a girl... WDYT????

It reminds me of Dawson's Creek, in a good way.

I also think it's more of a nickname...

Me too! Awh. I don't wanna wait...for our lives to be over...

I think her full name was Josephine though.
Josephine Potter.

Man, I suck :)

I want to know right now what will it be...

I love that show. And it is short for Josephine. Josephine Lynn Potter. :D

Lol. I knew the theme song and that her name was Joey, but I definitely didn't know her full name! I was never into Dawson's Creek until it was over. Then I wanted to watch it..

I love it as a nickname for Joanna, which is one of my favourite names at the moment. Not as a full name on its own, because that's TWO strikes against it for me (a nickname and a boys name).

In the same way I kind of like nicknames like Fred(die) and Charlie on girls, but not as full names.

As in it's inappropriate? :)

I don't know if I would use that wording. I really don't see anything 'inappropriate' about it. It may not be your taste.

I actually think it's kind of cute, and with the right middle name and last name, I think it could most definitely be pulled off.

I was just giving you a hard time.
No hard feelings :)

Personally, and everyone is different - which creates the dynamics of a forum like this, I'm totally okay with it.

My best girlfriend's name is Sam. Not Samantha. Just Sam (It's what her birth certificate says) - and honestly - I think if a name matches someone, no one questions it.

My stepmom's name is George. Like Nancy Drew's best friend. No GeorgeAnne, just George. And if I heard the name Sam or George without meeting who they were - i would probably be turned off to the name. But since they are in my life - i couldn't imagine calling them Samantha or GeorgeAnne. The names they were given just fit.

I don't see what the big deal is if someone has the name Joey.
Old or young.

I love the name Sam for a girl, but not Samantha.

Where I live (The Netherlands) it's normal to give nicknames as full names...mostly because generally we don't have the whole full name - nickname business here. I guess because most Dutch names are very short =)

I don't understand why peope get so bent up over it - My BIRTH name is Nichole - my parents wanted to name me Nikki, but everyone kept telling them that wouldn't be right...they shouldn't name me a "nickname"

I have NEVER EVER used the name, or been called the name Nichole.

It sounds foriegn to me.

They shoud've just ignored everyone and named me Nikki, since that's genuinely my name...I don't ever go by Nichole except for legal purposes.

I agree.

I do understand the advantages of a so-called full name (more nickname options, more formal) but if parents want to call their kid Sam instead of Samantha or Nikki instead of Nichole, like with you, I say go for it. Then again...it's common practice where I live, so yeah =)

It would be fine as a nickname for Josephine. On its own, especially as a girl's name, it's just really unfortunate.

I like it if it's short for Josephine, but only because of Dawson's Creek. I actually hate the name Josephine in full.

Oh, I just thought of Joanna. I love that name! Joanna nn Joey... use it!

I like masculine names on girls and Joey fits well. I have a female client named Justin and it so works on her.

I have a friend who's name is Joanna and she goes by Joie. Fits her perfectly, and most people (except one french professor) pronounces it correctly

I can't help thinking of it like "Joy", myself, although I knew from context that it's like Joey

I just don't like the name Joey, on anybody. Maybe it's because the people that I know named Joey are stupid as heck. And lazy. And stupid. That's what I associate with that name now. And Katie Holmes' stupid half smile.

I like Joey on a girl a LOT, but only as a nickname for something else -- my favorite is Josephine.

My friend's niece is Joey Alexis and my other friend says that if she has kids, they are going to be Joey (f) and Nolan (m).
