Guilty Pleasures
Jul. 9th, 2008 08:49 pmEveryone's got them. Names that you would really, absolutely use if you were a celebrity, a millionaire, or in some other way not living in the real world. I'm really curious as to what everyone's guilty pleasure names are, and why.
Mine are:
Girls:
Cinnamon (Cute, right? No idea what I'd do for a middle name, though.)
Rose Thorn
Oriana Star
Sunshine Rae
Wilhelmina Hope (My grandmother's name; I like the idea of it, but it just looks ugly to me. And most people seem to agree.)
Boys:
Briar Patch (Rose's twin brother, obviously :) )
Horatio Grey
Indigo Sea
Isidore Blue
Jett Storm
Come to think of it, I could almost inflict Horatio on a real person. Almost. Only problem is he'd spend his life being told there are more things in Heaven and Earth than are...well, you get the idea.
I limited myself to five boys and five girls, but if you have more/less, that's cool too.

Mirabel(le)
Maybelle
I think it's pretty obvious why I wouldn't use them (although I think Mirabel(le) is okay, just a bit too over-the-top for me personally to actually use).

***And Leonidas, which will stay a guilty pleasure for obvious reasons.

Philomena
Athaliah (Jezzie's demonic offspring, for those who don't know. Too bad, because the name is beautiful. ATH-uh-LIE-uh, with an accent on the first syllable, too.)
Ares
Apollo
Odysseus
Bartholomew
Cassius (I can't get over him being the manipulative bad boy behind Brutus' painful innocence.)

Clover
Ginger (This wasn't guilty pleasure until I saw Ginger Snaps)
Night - I consider unisex
Hermes
Draco (I decided I'd name a son Draco one night when I was looking at a stargazing map. I was 8 and Harry Potter had not yet come into existence. Darn you JK Rowling!)
Lucifer (Feel slightly ashamed that it's even on my guilty pleasure list but I honestly think that if you ignore all the connotations it has, it sounds really strong and nice. And there was a saint or something named Lucifer, so whatever. Lucius and Luke are my not-so-guilty replacements for it.)
I feel like I have such weird taste for guilty-pleasure names....

Payne
Japheth
Deacon
Eulalia
Poet nn Poe
I also adore the name Byrdie/Birdie, and I might use it as a nickname, but I don't love a logical full name for it, like I do other names. I do love Briar, but there are names that I love more than that one.

Date: 2008-07-10 03:50 am (UTC)Poet with the nickname Poe is great on so many levels. Where does Eulalia come from? I've herd it before, but only in Redwall.

Starlight or maybe Star Lyte to make it uber-classy a la Rooster McConaughey.
Tangerine (it sooo trumps Apple)
Astoria
Guinevere
My taste in boys names is more traditional, but I might do something like combining River with Thames, lol... There are so many names I can't use with River.
Oh, also BOWIE. I would so name my kid Bowie.
