haha yeah, I was thinking maybe it wasn't short for anything though, like he could've just been called Ray.

Chances are that he was called Raymond Raymond, though, and shortened his first name to Ray to try to hide it.

If he's from Scandinavia that makes more sense though. Like, I know that in my own ancestry, Danish surnames were like -if someone's last name is Nielsen, their dad is Niels, so they literally are Niels's son... last names changed every generation. So Erik Erikson would be as common as the amount of people called Erik who name their sons after themselves...(as if they need to, with a last-name system which already names them after their dads)
