A church I used to attend had a Tommy and Tammy Thomkins. Sickeningly cute, dontcha think? I've seen a couple Bill (short for William) Williams before.
If he's from Scandinavia that makes more sense though. Like, I know that in my own ancestry, Danish surnames were like -if someone's last name is Nielsen, their dad is Niels, so they literally are Niels's son... last names changed every generation. So Erik Erikson would be as common as the amount of people called Erik who name their sons after themselves...(as if they need to, with a last-name system which already names them after their dads)
That's really uncreative but I think it could have hit him worse. Same for the others. Imagine his parents would have called him "Kodiak Kitch-Kaw-Nee Bly-Was [Raymond]" (I'm not joking, there are parents who actually called their son that!)...! :-/
