"Created by the Italian author Gabriele d'Annunzio for his novel 'La Figlia di Jorio' (1904). It is derived from Tuscan Italian ornello meaning "flowering ash tree"."
I actually have a whose middle is Ornella (her first name is an African name that is difficult to spell and pronounce). She was originally from west Africa, but spent some time in France.
I do think it's pretty, but because of her I would never use it.
I know what you mean. There are some very respectable names I would never use simply because I've met people with those names that I don't get along with.
