do you automatically assume the pronounciation is line or lynn?
Also, list names that end in line.

Caroline
Madeline
Emmeline

Caroline is caro-line
Madeline is either Mad-eh-line or mad-e-lynn
Emmeline is emm-e-leen

So, I'm all over the place!

I automatically assume it's pronounced -line.

Otherwise, I would spell those examples

Carolyn
Madelyn or Madeleine (the second one is more of a -len sound to me)
Emmelyn

Caroline: Car-o-lyn
Madeline: Mad-a-line or Mad-a-lyn (this is going to be our daughter's name, except we're spelling it "Madeleine:)

and Emmeline: Em-a-line But I don't know anyone with that name, and have never heard it out loud, so I'm not really sure.

This is how I pronounce them...

Line or leen, never 'lyn'. Maybe that's a regional thing, I don't know.

Line. All three of them. If the word ends with "line", it's pronounced that way. That's how I look at it. If you wanted it to be pronounced "lyn", you'd spell it that way.

-line.

My older daughter is Madelyn and I did the -lyn so people wouldn't pronounce it -line. Though I like the how the Madeline spelling looks better.

Incindentally, my little one is named Caroline :)

Usually "line," depending on the spelling.
Caroline is "care-o-line," Carolyn/Carolin is "care-o-lynn".
Madeline is "mad-eh-line", and Madeleine is "mad-eh-lynn".
Emmeline is "emma-line"

However, Jacqueline is "jac-qwah-lynn" to me.

it definitely depends. for your list, it's line, lynn and leen. my twin's name is jacqueline (lynn), but i have fun using line and leen instead to bug her.

I always pronounce it line.

I assume it ends in -line. I prefer those names to the -lyn ones. I don't like Madelyn (eghhh) or even Madeleine as much as Madeline, and I don't like Emmalyn or Carolyn as much, either.

they all have the -line pron. for me.

I try to stress the -line ending, as opposed to the -lyn ending (unless it's actually spelled with a -lyn). I think Jacqueline is the only one I prn. with a -lyn ending.

I automatically assume the pronunciation of all of them is 'line'.

For me:

Caroline — CARE-oh-line
Madeline — MAD-ah-lin (this is my grandmother's name)
Emmeline — EM-ah-line or EM-ah-leen, depending on my mood, I think. I've never heard it pronounced aloud, though, so I'm not entirely sure.

I used to always think lynn but now I think it just depends.

This was mentioned a while back, Christian Bale's daughter is called Emmeline, and someone said in an interview he called her Emma-line. But on behind the names it says you pronounce it Emma-leen.

I think the way you say it is up to the person, like Madeline.

I pronounce them with a 'line' until I'm told otherwise.

I automatically assume "lynn", because I think it sounds better. But I think -line looks better, y's tend to make names look tacky if there's an alternative, imo.
