Lysander and Puck are both on my boys' list =)
I also like Oberon (not listed here)

It's my opinion, thanks. I only planned on using it for a middle name, if you had cared to ask, instead of being rude.

I wasn't being rude, just expressing my shock that someone would use a name so closely resembling an obvious profanity..

Except I don't think of it like that-I think of it as a mischievous, clever fairy. If people want to think of it as relating to the f word, well, that's fine. Words are just words-people make them "dirty" and "bad".

I just think that when it comes to naming kids you have to realise that it is about how other people will percieve them..so regardless of how much you might like a name, it's not just about that..

I love Puck's character, but still.. the word 'fuck' will never be a good association. I'm glad, if it has to be anywhere, you're just thinking of the middle name.

I'm thinking of a 4 letter word that applies to a woman, the last three letters are U-N-T

That's right, I was thinking of my AUNT!

While Puck is an odd name (though I love the character) I really don't think people are automatically going to think "FUCK" when they see it. After all, we use words like duck, buck, luck, stuck, muck, tuck, well, you get the idea. And we manage to use all of them (including TUCK as a name... and sometimes Buck too) and we manage to avoid associating it with the infamous f-word.

But Aunt and Cunt don't rhyme..
Hmm.. I don't know, maybe it's me then.. but I'd bet the majority would think the f word..

For the record, Tuck & Buck are just as bad.

No but the comment reminded me of the joke, so I used it as my lead in

Kids grow up - what grown man would want to be associated with a "mischievous clever fairy" or have to write Puck on a job application?

Wow, pick at me all you want. All I said was I really liked the name. BFD.

Er, hello...this is a baby name discussion comm. No-one is picking on you or being rude, we're just expressing opinions.

I made a point questioning the suitability of the name 'Puck' for an adult male - you don't agree, which is fine. End of story.

See comm info: "If you can't handle both positive and negative feedback, please refrain from posting".

I have yet to write my middle name on a single job application. It's not even on my taxes or any of my school registrations. Really, the only place you can't duck it is on your passport.

There are quite a few that the list-maker missed. At any rate, I don't think I could use a Shakespearean name on my child as much as I love his work. Most of his names are either too strange or I just don't like them.

I might use William though, because (amazingly) there are no Williams in my family and I really do love Shakespeare.

I'm not blaming Aimee, I'm just saying that whomever wrote this had a weird method of selection, because Shakespeare invented the name Jessica (at least in that form) but it did not make the list, then Richard is on there, which I doubt very many people would associate with Shakespeare at all.

Huh, I didn't know he invented Jessica.

That's interesting!

He invented Olivia and Cordelia as well.

Ahh, well we'll blame the book then!

Duhhhhh why isn't Jessica (my name lol) up there??
Shakespeare was the first one ever to use it, in The Merchant of Venice.

Yeah, I'm not sure what baby name book this is from, but there are a lot missing. Off the top of my head: Valeria, Desdemona, Walter, William, Diana, Bianca...

LOL, I guess all books have a Shakespeare list?! The one that I put here was from my book, too, but I noticed yours has some names on it that mine didn't and vice versa :P

Anyway! The ones I like :)

Adriana
Emilia
Helena
Imogen - I'm never sure on this name ... sometimes I like it, sometimes I don't.
Isabella
Juliet - too close to my name to ever use, though!
Katharina
Lavinia
Mariana
Olivia
Viola - I really like it, but it seems like an old lady name to me for some reason. Maybe because the only people I know with this name (in real life) are old ladies, haha.

Antony - love! I hate Anthony with the h, but love it spelled without. I have no idea why lol.
Edmund
Julius - see note with Juliet :P
Lysander
