WDYT of the name Amarantha? I know it's different, and out there, but I love the sound of it, and it's been in my head a lot lately. I don't think I could ever use it, though, much as I love it ... I mean, my favorite boy's names (Benjamin, Nathaniel) all sound sort of normal compared to it. Then again, she could be called Amy for short ... right?! I guess it's more of a guilty pleasure name than anything. Maybe for a future pet .... lol.

Yeah, I know, it is pretty big. Maybe Amaranta sounds a bit better? I'm not sure. Like I said, I'd more than likely never use it, but I still love it.

I hate the name Amanda, and this looks like Amanda with 17 extra letters to me.

I like it and have heard it before-- although it does sound like a potion or tincture to me.

IMO Amy is a boring nn for such a weighty, important sounding first name.

I think I came across it on a site about flower names that could be used as people names. I've been mulling over it for a while now .. a month, maybe? I dismiss it, saying it's too out there, but it keeps coming back! I know that Amy is kind of a boring nn for such a name, but I'm thinking about sibsets ... I want to have more than one kid, for sure, and my boys names aren't out there at all and the other girls ones are a little more unique but certainly not as out there as that one sounds!

I also heard/read Amarantha somewhere recently and it's stuck with me too. I really like it but not sure I would use it - and I know it's too "out there" for my husband do it's not going to happen in his life time. :P

I reread my comment and I shouldn't have said "boring" as it's not precisely what I meant. Amarantha is so significant and Amy is much less so. Don't know if that explantion is hurting or helping. :)

You're right in that a sibling name for Amarantha poses a challenge-- but a good one. What other names are on your lists?

Hmm, well my top two boys names, as I said before, are Benjamin and Nathaniel. As for other girls names ... I really like Layla, Autumn, Ariel, Lucy ... but those could change. My girl's names tend to change quicker than my boy's names, which I can't see changing at all.

Amaranth is a plant. You probably don't need to add the "a" at the end, and that might make it less of a mouthful.

It's definitly kind of long for my style; I like names short and sweet. That just looks like Amanda and Samantha put together.
