I am an only child, and I have a sibling question.  There is a lot of discussion on here about sibsets. I often see things like this:

Ashley
Derzeray
Gymes

With comments like, "Wow, Ashley really lucked out."

Or this:

Abby
Adam
Andrew
Julia

With comments like, "I bet Julia really feels left out."

Lastly:

Rylan
Catherine
Marvin
Starla

"This sibset is SO mismatched."

I agree with these sort of statements most of the time, but I am wondering, all you people with sibs, where these issues when you were a kid? Were you envious of your sibling's names? Did you ever think to yourself, "It is a good thing we all have names that go well together." or "Wow, mom and dad sure are random when it comes to name picking!" Did any of these "issues" affect you as a child or adult?

We all had J names growing up.
My younger brother and I have the same initials. I think it's stupid.
I wasn't envious of their names. We all have pretty normal names.
It wasn't an issue or anything. Maybe because we didn't have crazy names

My kids are Alexandria, Connor, Jessica and Gabrielle. I guess you could say they don't really match...heh

No, I didn't have any issues at all when I was a kid about my name. I don't know if any of my siblings did, though.

Me & my sibs, oldest to youngest:
-Benjamin
-Alison (me)
-Brianna

my name doesn't match with my siblings at all. my name is ashley nicole, which was obviously very trendy at the time (1989). my mother was really young when she had me, so i'm assuming that's why.

my brothers names are david john and peter joseph, but they were born about a year apart. then my sister's name is christina marie, she's about six years younger than my brothers.

i was only ever jealous of my sisters name at first because i've always wanted a nickname and not much can come from ashley. but i don't think our names match at all and since joining this community i've wondered whether people think it sounds weird when my mother tells them what her kids names are.

My sibs have much more "classic" names, especially the younger ones--Catherine, Nicholas, and Matthew. My half-sister is Cynthia, which is also sort of classic to me. I, on the other hand, am a pure 80s child: KellyAnne Courtney. I wanted to steal my little sister's name, because my first name is just stupid.

My siblings and I (there are 3 of us) all have names beginning with the same letter. It annoys me, but it annoys my younger sister, who is the youngest, more because her name (Devon) was purely picked to match us to rather than any real interest in it. It's not so much because it's the same letter, but because the names have no meaning beyond having the same letter. My sister and I both go by our middle names/versions of our middle names regularly.

My children are Owen and Alexandra. Other than both having two middle names with the first one being Hebrew, I have no idea if they 'match' at all or if any of the names we like for any future blessings (Franklin, Irena, Mirabelle, Zachary, Theodor, Emmeline) match at all with out first two. I'm not so worried about them matching (in fact I try to make sure all names are indidivual as possible) but they all have personal meaning and namesakes and that matters a lot more to my husband and I.

Me and my next sister (Julie) in line both had J names. My youngest sister was supposed to have one too, but my mom changed her mind (she was supposed to be Jillian) and named her Natasha, after some dream she had of my sister as a figure skater. Figure skater she is not. :P

I just thought it was weird she changed her mind at the last minute, but it never really *bothered* me.

I always hated that both of my sisters had relatively ~unique~ names, whereas I was just another Jennifer. :( I still hate my name, but I think I'm too old to try and change my ways now. :P

The thoughts never crossed my mind concerning myself & my siblings (at least the two that I grew up knowing), but I guess we had relatively normal names. Jennifer (myself), Rachel, and Nathan.

I did, however, think about my neighbour's sons. She had 4 and, like your example, all but one of them had names that started with 'A'. I did always wonder how the 'B' felt about that.

My brother and I's names match, I think, because they're both Biblical. But I did sort of notice as a kid that he had the majorly popular name (Joshua) whereas I'm Leah and I knew no Leah's growing up.

I only have one sister, so we're:

Alison
Sarah

They never seemed mismatched to me. I think my sister is sometimes kind of annoyed at how common her name is, but I never heard her say she was jealous that I had a less common name or anything. I think they go together well, but they're not matchy. My mum REALLY did not want our names to be matchy/start with the same letter.

I think me and my sister's name sound good together, and remember thinking such a thing when I was younger. We're:

Sophie
Madeleine

They're both different, but somehow they work together (or maybe I'm just so used to hearing them together...). I think my parents picked them out cause they wanted names that worked and were easily pronouncable in both English and French, since half my family is English and half my family is French.

My grandparents did the same thing (picked out names that they thought sounded good in English and French), but they went with:

Gerald
Daniel
Lise
Joanne
Christine

Personally I think Gerald sounds a lot better in French than it does in English, but hey.

I feel like my sister's and my names match pretty well, Maggie and Abbie, and I know that when my parents were picking out her name (I'm 6 years older), they intentionally chose something with a nickname that ended in 'ie', since mine does and my mom's name is Julie.

So, I knew that my parents matched our names on purpose and I felt they did pretty well. But I was jealous for a while, thinking her name was prettier than mine. Now I think I got the better deal, sort of, since my first name is after my great-grandmother and my middle name is after my mom's best friend since she was a little kid, and my sister's names are just names they liked, and her middle name is Rose which is so generic.

I'm Melissa Elena, and my sister is Emily Ann. We were both named after songs. My middle was our dad's mom's name and my sister's middle is our mom's name.

I love my name and I think it fits me. Emily doesn't like her name because it's popular and she HATES being called Emily Ann. My parents were a bit older when they had kids (my dad was 41 for me, 44 for my sister and mom was 35 for me, 38 for my sister) so they didn't realize how trendy Emily was in 1991, because many of their friends had older children.

I have two sibsets because of my parent's multiple marriages. My half-brother (from my mother) and I have names that come from TV/Film. My name is Alyssa (after Alyssa Milano) and he is Chad (after Elvis' character in "Blue Hawaii").

The sibset (actually the family set) from my dad's second marriage is where it gets interesting....

Alyssa (Me)
Michael (stepbro)

Danny (Dad)
Kathy (stepmom)
Nancy (sister)
Whitney (sister)
Mary (sister)

See the trend? I think I'm the only one in the house who has noticed it....

I hate both my sisters names. I don't love my name either but out of the three of us I'm happier with mine than I would be with theirs.

We all have the same middle name though, which I HATE.

No issue really affected me, but a couple of weeks ago a guy in my class said how random my name and my sister's go together: Autumn and Jerika (me).

Because apparently, Jerika is such a popular name and Autumn isn't common at all. I don't know what the heck he was on. I think that the only times that I'm envious of my sister's name is when people mispronounce mine. Which they do a lot.

I think mine and my sisters' names go good together. I named one of my sisters and i'm not really crazy about the other sister's name because i think it is too popular.

We are:
Rebekah Lee (me)
Laura Lee
Sarah Katherine

Can you guess which one i named? hehe

I don't know if I thought about it when I was a kid but then again I think my brother and my names go together well. My name is English origin and his is Welsh (Aubrey and Dylan).

Same goes for my hubby and his sibs, they all have Biblical names: David, Debra and Benjamin.

I dunno if my sisters' names and mine match... I never really thought about it. Spoken out loud it sounds fine, but style-wise it's a little different. My name (Lysanne) is French/German, my sister Moniek's name is the Dutch version of Monique, and Jessica is very American to me.

I haven't any siblings, but I was raised with a cousin and a best friend who were like siblings to me. Sophie, Celeste, and Tasha. I think we went together well...

Also, Rylan is my boyfriend's name!

I'm an only child too!

Although...my cousin let her daughter name her younger sister, which I thought was weird. She was three at the time, and named everything "Pretty" and they talked her out of pretty so she picked "Sally" (she had a doll named "Pretty Sally") Anyway, my cousin named her baby Sara but only so they could call her Sally. And most people still call her Pretty Sally, which is just awful.

I used to think it was cute and endearing when parents let little kids name siblings, but now I think it is a dangerous game to play! :)

I'm Misty Lynn and my half-sister is Summer Lynn (and her half-sister on the other side is Lindsay Mae). Summer is the youngest and her middle name was intended to be after me and Lindsay.

I didn't realize until I joined this community just HOW hippie-dippie our names are (with the exception of Lindsay).

For a reference point, I was born in 1984, Lindsay in 1992, and Summer in 1996.

Lindsay now has a 10-month old daughter named Kiersten Mae, with the middle name obviously after herself (which was also Lindsay & Summer's grandma's middle name).
