Lucia(Loo-sha) Johanna.

I'm stuck on Lucia, but I'm finding it hard to find a good middle name, and since i discovered that my mother was named after her grandmother, and then named em after mine, I've sortof thought about continuing the tradition, but my mother's name is Joanne, which I'm not fond of, so I thought of Johanna...

thoughts?

syllable wise I actually think that Loo-see-ah Johanna flows better.

with Loo-sha I like Lucia Isadora (my current fav middle name)

I always thought the name was pronounced as Loo-chee-ah. :/ Is this how it's pronounced in another language? Just curious.

Loo-chee-ah is the Italian way of pronouncing it. Loo-sha is the English variant.

I honestly don't know where Loo-sha comes from.
It's Loo-CHEE-ah in italian and Loo-SEE-ah in spanish, so I can't figure out where else they have like that.

Sorry, I can't say I like either name :/

My point is: where did you hear it? :P
Asking truly out of wonder

well, Lucius is Loo-shus, isn't it? so, I guess all 3 are valid.

it is, in English. So I am wondering if that's how it started. Also, Lucius being an emperor has been around for a while (in textbooks), but I wasn't aware that Lucia had reached the anglophone world :P

The island of St. Lucia is pronounced as Saint Loosha. At least my boss, who was born and raised there, says it like that... Wiki is giving me "Saint Loo-shyuh" as the official (translated from IPA) English pronunciation.

I'm totally hypothesizing here, but it probably came from weird middle English pronunciation, where -ci was pronounced as a "sh" sound.

I love Lucia, and Johanna is better than Joanne, but not much.

I like the name but pronounced Loo-SEE-ah I am not fond of other pronounciations... my best friend is named Lucia Mariana, but she hates her middle name lol

Lucia Joanne sounds waaay better than Lucia Johanna to me. If you really don't like Joanne, what about just Anne? Lucia Anne sounds okay.

I've only heard it pronounced Loo-see-ah and Loo-chee-ah, both of which I think sound better than Loo-sha, especially with the middle name Johanna.

i think lucia joanne sounds quite nice, actually. its very nice with johanna too, just a bit more of a mouthful.

i think lucia is very pretty, and while i would pronounce it loo-see-ah on first glance, i appreciate the alternate pronunciation to honor someone.

excellent choice all around, imo.

i just wanted to say that the more i pronounce this name in my head, the more i am really falling in love with it. plus, i love the idea of the nickname lulu or louie.

its a nice variant on lucy too, a name i really like.

I actually do like the name Lucia and pronounced that way. I went to school with a Lucia (Loo-sha), so that is just how I've always how I've said it.

I'm not a fan of Lucia, especially pronounced that way, but I love Johanna/Joanna.

I'd pronounce it Loo-see-ah... And I don't like the double a's. I don't like your pronounciation and I like Johanna more than Joanne but would probably go with Joanna for the spelling.
