[identity profile] sexxie-dork.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
My husband and I (been married for three weeks) just found we are pregnant.

Our last name is Norman.

But I don't know what names really go with that. I love Sienna and Kiera for a girl, but I don't have any boys names that I love. I like names that are unique and you don't see everyday - We have a nephew named Aidan so I don't want something with an A or something as popular as that has become.

For middle names, I would like a boy to have either Lance (Father-in-law) or Lucas (My younger brother-in-law's middle name), but I've always loved the middle name James. For girls, I have no idea, I've always liked Lee as a middle and my middle is Marie so I could use that also.

Help!

Lee and Marie are considered filler middle names, but if you like them, why not.
Sienna and Kiera are not my style and definitely on the trendy side, but if you're cool with that, then go for it. At least they are legit names :D

I really like Lucas! I'm neutral to James and Lance.

If they have a meaning then they don't classify as filler :)

I like Janes as a middle name, but not Lance (maybe that's the pop culture influence, I'm not sure). I really love Lucas!

Some (slightly) unusual names:

Maeve
Faye
Nina
Rosalie
Anouk
Milou
Yara/Mara
NoƩmie
Selene/Celine
Geneva
Lenore
Lydia
Freya
Annika
Chandra
Odette/Odille
Luna

Sawyer

I like Lucas & Lance, I'm pretty much neutral towards James. Sienna is nice too, I think.
I personally find Lee & Marie a little boring, but hey, it's your child! =) Plus, they go with a lot of names (not Rosalie though...;)
Good luck!

Sienna and Kiera are both becoming much more popular, so while they aren't too popular right now, you'd be right on the beginning of the upswing, so I doubt you'll want to use those, if you want something different.

I like the boy middle names a lot, but the girl middle names are kind of boring. If you like them, go for it, but they're just very . . . blah.

Ideas:
Eliza
Maren

If you want names that are unique and that you don't see every day, don't use Sienna and Kiera. They're incredibly popular right now, and they're definitely not finished their climb. Sienna went from not even being in the top 1000 in 1994, to ranking 169th in 2007. Kiera is 293rd, but you have to combine that with Keira (128th).

Go HERE (http://www.behindthename.com/top/) to find out the popularity of a name.

Go HERE (http://www.babynamewizard.com/voyager) to find out popularity and how a name is trending (type in Kiera and Sienna and see what happens).

I'll try to come up with some suggestions for names and post them back here.

I agree with [livejournal.com profile] sandtree. None of the names strike me as that unusual, if you are after something unique. Even Marie is less popular than Sienna/Kiera.

So here's a few names which aren't in the top 1000 most popular names but are 'real' names, (i,e, not just 'unique' due to weird spelling).

Cosmo (b)
Boris (b)
Vivian (b)
Sholto (b)
Piers (b)
Percy (b)

Cosima (g)
Venetia (g)
Sibylla (g)
Flora (g)
Poppy (g)
Vivien/Vivienne (g)
Jacquetta (g)
Imogen (g)

If you don't want a name you'll see every day, stay away from Sienna, it's gaining in popularity a lot. I feel like this is true for Kiera too, but I'm less certain.

I think that when you use letter's from the middle of your last name for your child's first initials, it can help it flow more, especially with a short, straight-forward last name like Norman.

For example, Riley Norman and Michelle Norman sound good.
You could try looking up names that start with R and M, say them aloud with your last name, and see what you think.
