What do you guys think of the name River, for either a girl or a boy? It's not really my style, but I think I rather like it in the abstract. Trouble is, I can't say it outloud with any middle or surname without it sounding like a geographical description - the River Doran, runs through Europe.

Also, entirely seperate point, what do you think of the names:

Adrianna (f)
Adrian (m)
Guy (m)
Pearl (f)

No particular reason for asking - not sure what I think of them myself - but I have a cold and am laid up at home, so I thought I would fill time by collecting some opinions :)

I like Adrienne and Adrian, but I would prefer Adriana with one n (e.g. Adriana Lima). Guy and Pearl are ehhhh. I don't like precious stone/gem names.

I wouldn't name my kid River either, but I do like the name. I don't think of it as a geographical description, but that's probably because of River Phoenix and River Tam from Firefly.

I'm not a fan of River. Like you said, it just sounds like a geographical location. To me, it's like naming your kid Mountain or Lake.

Adrienne: I like, especially with the "enne" as opposed to "anne"
Adrianna: Not a fan, though I hate most names that end in "a"
Adrian: It's nice sounding enough, but I wouldn't use it because I can't think of a nickname I like for it.
Guy: Short and boring. Also a little obvious. Like, duh I know he's a guy.
Pearl: Not a fan. Pearls belong on a necklace.

I'm kind of indifferent to the name River, but I do see it as a masculine name.

None of those names are really my style; I like Guy the best. Don't like Pearl, at all, I think that it sounds like an old woman.

I prefer Adrienne out of the first three, and I like Pearl. I like River as well, but I can't break away from the Firefly/Serenity attachment.

i am not a fan of river. its one of those trying too hard to be hippie dippie names. sage is the same way for me.

i dont like any of the other names you listed. pearl is ok, its my dads cats name.

She's not really taking any suggestions. Her name's Claire, and her husband Craig. I think anything BUT River would sound great!

I LOVE the name Adrienne, but I could be biased since it's my best friend's name, hahaha. Adrianna is okay, but has always seemed way too flowery -- I think Adrienne is pretty enough, without trying to make it more feminine.

I love the name Adrian for a boy, too. It's definitely one of my favorites, but I'd only use it as a middle name, probably, because it's my best friend's name. Unless I were to give him a J middle name and could call him AJ when she's around. Hmmmm.

Guy and Pearl aren't my style. Pearl is okay, I guess, but Guy is way too easily mistaken as not a real name for a real name.

I really like Adrian & Adrienne, and I think Adrianna is ok. I'm not so fond of Guy and Pearl...I guess they're just not my style.

I love the name River for a boy. I've had to Wikipedia it though, and cross check it with all the other names on my list, it eliminates quite a few combos.

I don't like any of the Adrien names, mostly because of Adrienne (idk re: sp?) Curry. She's so trash and really turned me off of the names, I was previously neutral.

Guy is a nn to me, not a real name.

Pearl is a nice middle name, but truth be told, it's too dated for me to use at all. I had one acquaintance at school who called me this because I wear [fake] pearls every day.

She was fine on ANTM, but if you ever read any of her blogs or anything, she's just so dumb-sounding. You'd think that she's had enough time being famous to realize that everything she says will be reposted, analyzed, made fun of, etc.

Adrienne and Adrianna I like. Adrian I might like if it weren't so close to Aidan or if Aidan wasn't soooo popular. Guy I definitely do not like. Pearl seems outdated.

I, uh, think of Doctor Who. But that is because at the moment it is taking over my life. Haha. In a good way!
And I didn't like the character, so I've gone off the name a bit as well.

I like Adrianna and Adrienne, but don't like the others.
