Eloise

I'm surprised I haven't heard more of this name lately, with the huge surge of people wanting any name that could possibly have Ella as a nickname.

I want to like it more than I do, but I'm pretty neutral to it. Just thought I'd throw it out there cos others might like it.

I guess I'm the only one who really isn't too crazy about the name Ella. Also, I'm really not keen on naming a child something when you know you're just going to call them a nn. I just don't really get it.

Considering those things and the fact that the children's series about the little girl named Eloise, it is a surprise that it's not more popular... Every time I hear the name "Ella" I think of that dumb song "Umbrella ella ella"

I've certainly seen an increase in the use of Eleanor and Elizabeth, but not so much just so that Ella can be a nickname. I actually have loved the name Ella for years but prefer it as a given name, and also love the names Eleanor and Elizabeth, but would never use Ella a a nn for Elizabeth.. I probably wouldn't use Ella a as a nn for Eleanor, but have seen it done.

Elise will always be a terribly ugly name to be and I don't see it a lot, never in the younger generation (and I'm a teacher and see a lot of the horrible names that are popular now).. is it in the top 100?

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I was beginning to think I was the only one. I really don't get why people would name their child something and know ahead of time that they're going to call them something else! You should name them what you're going to call them.

No, you're not alone. I'm not a fan of the Ellas either. I think it's way too played.

That being said, I don't hate Eloise

I don't get why people are so insistant on Ella being a nn. Why not just Ella? I'd go with that before I called my kid Elise or Eleanor.

I wouldn't use it, but I don't mind Eloise. It's very distinguished sounding.

I HATE the name Eloise, but only because of a personal tragedy that has to do with a horribly evil person named Eloise.

I had a friend named Eloisa growing up :)
I do like Eloise better (El-oh-EEZ), although it's not a name I'd use.

I knew an Eloise when I was growing up. She was weird, so now I always assume people with the name are going to be strange :P

It reminds me of the little girl who lives in the hotel in those books. I also am beginning to hate Ella.

I'm not really a fan. It's . . . okay, but definitely not one I'd use.

I really liked it for a while, but I'm kind of over it now. I still think it's nice, though.
