so not alone on this! i love them too. however, i wouldnt use either for two reasons:

1. luna is just a little too out there for me, and...
2. my children are extremely likely to have red hair and fair skin and naming someone who looks like that "india" would just be odd.

but i LOVE them! and together! yes!

I love Luna. And I think India and Luna go well together, but India is a little out there for me.

I LOVE the name India for a girl!

Luna reminds me of the cat on Sailor Moon. I'll always think of it as a cat name...

India reminds me of India Arie. I like her music and I LOVE her middle name... so I like India.

They are definitely not names you hear everyday. =)

India, yes (although I prefer Indiana a little more); Luna, no. Luna's not a bad name, it just sounds more suited to a pet, or as a nn.

I like Luna but hate place names. I'm generally okay with most names based on Greek mythological figures. I mean, at least it's a human or goddess name, not a country with the second highest population in the world, y'know?

while I agree, many place names were named after people to begin with

I believe I love India more than Luna. However, they're both gorgeous names. :)

I'm more the other way around - I like Luna more than India. I wouldn't use Luna because it has a lot of associations, e.g. Harry Potter, and so it comes with baggage already rather than just being a clean slate sort of name. India... there are a lot of wonderful things about that place, but it's still a third world country, and I have no specific tie to it, so it seems really weird to use it.

Yes. But I personally find it very awkward for a person to bear the name of the place they inhabit or are visiting. Naming your kid Winston because it's the name of the British township where you have roots? Worked fine for Mr. Churchill! But a whole state or country? Ick. My mother grew up across the street from three kids named Bolivia, Argentina, and Ecuador (the lone son), and if you think we still tell the story decades later because they were cute names or the kids were such dears, well...

Of course, America Ferrara's doing okay for herself, it seems, but I would bet oooodles she got tired of the *original* teasing of her peers and is only now living it down by making lots of money. Playing somebody ugly. :os

I love Luna. My cat's name is Luna [but I didn't name her]. I like the name Luna as a person partially because of Luna Lovegood from harry potter. I don't like place names...India, Asia, Dakota, Georgia, Brooklyn, etc.

Ohh no no no! you're not alone!
I really like "hippie" names :D
Luna means Moon in italian and India means River in sanskrit, so what's there not to love? ;)
I like the sounds too and it makes a good sibset

The only glitch for me is that India is also a country and people might think straight away that the parents are buddha & curry fanatics, when maybe they're not.

In Italy Luna is actually a real name :)
Like Stella, which is also the word for "star" (Luna means "moon")

I kind of like them together. both names are ok, though I'd never personally use them.

I knew a little girl named India (the place her father was from, though she never actually went there so there was no obvious place name awkwardness as some people said above) and it suited her. I definitely think that the names are better once you meet someone with them than "on paper".

Don't really like Luna, but I don't mind India. I knew a little girl with the most amazing voice named India. She was like, 9, but she sounded like a grown woman jazz singer. It was freaking amazing. So yeah, I think she influenced me into liking India as a name.

India was the name of one of the Wilkes sisters in Gone With the Wind. I've always sort of liked it.

They're cute names. I like Luna much more than India. I don't think I'd use either, but I think my father would love it if I named a kid Luna cuz he's a Frank Zappa fan... he always tell me I was lucky to be named after an Allamn Bros song and not Frank Zappa's kids.
