I signed my kids up for a soccer class for 3-5 year olds. first things first: coach went through the line and name-tagged each kid. my 3-year-old refused to speak up, so the kid next to him offered his own name, which the coach mistakenly believed he was offering as my son's name. so, he labeled my son with the other kid's name tag.

so... guess what name got stuck on my kid. no, really, just guess. I'll give you a hint: it's on this list.

I don't even know which one I hate the most :/ as far as I'm concerned, the only acceptable variants are Aidan or Aiden. (and no, it was neither of those that was stuck to my kid.)

It's got to be Kaden/Caden/Kayden whatever. LoL It seems like at the hospital where I work, all the baby boys are named either Jayden or Kayden now.

oh no! ironically, my nephew is a Cayden, so I feel I should have guessed it.

My brother-in-law and his girlfriend say they randomly picked this name out of a baby name book because it was so 'different' and they thought it was 'cute'. All I can think is "srsly? don't you people pay ANY attention to SSA? or birth announcements? or anyone else who has kids??"

in all fairness though, they're both kind of... like that. ( I was going to say "moronic" but it's taste and not stupidity so I didn't feel like I was being very nice or fair.)

and he's SUCH a cute kid, I feel a little bad for him. :(

what's weird is I first hear of everything on line, then get met with it in person. it's so predictable. I think I left a comment to someone else about all the other names I came across in this soccer class. first time either of my kids were in any class-type setting, and there are all the names I've heard talked about so much online since they were born...

I dunno, I think I knew about the trend well before I ever had the chance to accidentally like any variants first. except Aidan, since I first heard the name 10 years ago, back when it was, you know, "different".

I know. it's not like he accidentally stuck the "kaden" tag on aidan or canon or someone whose name may as well be kaden. you just don't label a Linus Kaden!

well in this case, the coach probably doesn't realize there's a Kaileigh in the class, because he can't read his own handwriting (he hand-wrote the name tags himself) and kept calling her kailen. I guess his H looked a bit like an N...

his own kid is named Zakk. with two K's. I first wondered if coach misspelled the kid's name until I realized it was his kid :P
