Naming one's daughter after a masculine-aimed motorcycle company is bad enough, but the spelling makes it cringe-worthy. IMO, Harley is a name that belongs as a surname or, at the very most, on a guy.
Hee, I named my teddy bear Jezebel, because my friend Jessica gave her to me, and I didn't know what to name her, and I said 'Jessica's bear' really quickly and it turned into Jezebel. Haha, don't ask. This was only a couple years ago :P my mom was like ... 'you know what that means, right?' I didn't care :P
It still sounds the same though. I don't think of Harley as a first name to begin with, but it definitely SOUNDS more masculine, don't you think? So changing the spelling to "leigh" doesn't make it more feminine to me. But everyone has their own opinions, of course :).
It's awful. It's already a name on my top ten worst name lists (yeah, I keep one of those too) but that ugly spelling makes it even worse. It makes me think of a harley bike that's been spray painted pink and covered in a bunch of ruffle and lace embellishments or something. This is a girl Harley is seems to scream. Ugh.
I've said this before and I'll say it again-- I HATE unnecessary "eigh" spelling variants of names, it looks so ugly and makes me think of bronchitis for some strange reason.
Not to mention that Harley is a bad enough name as it is.
Leigh is a cute name, but any prefix to it just looks trashy to me! Carleigh, Ryleigh, etc. Harleigh is even worse for being a surname commonly accepted as boy's name.
I've seen Tayleigh and Tyleigh, too. Some woman on Yahoo! Answers couldn't decide between the two... -_- Despite the fact that I'm quite sure Tei Li and Tai Li are legitimate names in Japanese, both of those are just awful when spelt like that.
I know a girl with that name, except it's spelled Harley. And yes, she is named after the bike. But still, I don't think that it's that bad. With either spelling.
Well, my husband's side of the family has a lot of money, but they're really into Harley's. One of his cousins got married in a bar and they all wore orange and black (harley colors) and she walked down the aisle to Redneck Woman. YEAAAAAAAAHHHHH. Whatever floats your boat! So that's the kind of people I see when I hear Harley, or I associate it with tough big burly men who ride em' with a gang of their friends. :P
