i've never known or heard of an eli in real life, so i think you'll be fine.

i love it, btw. i've been thinking of using it as a possible nickname for elliott.

I know a few people with young babies called Elijah who use Eli as a nickname... that's here in Australia, and I don't think it's all that common really.

I know of three Elis. One is actually Mark Eli, and goes by either. I call him Eli. I love the name, though.

You might run into sports fans who use it, after Eli Manning. ;P My husband tried to peg it on our baby, and I said HELL no, just for that reason. :)

Elijah is rather popular in America. They use the nickname, Eli.

It's common on my lj friends list for some reason. One baby Eli and two baby Elliot/Eliots and one baby Elijah.

In real life I only know an Elijah about four years old who goes by Elijah.

Eli is a girls name in Norway, hahaha.
I always found that kind of funny.

I have heard of a few boys named Eli though. There was this set of identical triplets born a few months back named Eli, Colin and Logan.

And also, in one of Britney Spears' early music videos, one of the actors names was Eli. (This is almost embarrassing to know :P)

It is common, but not horrifically trendy. It's definitely not an Aidan name, and while he will probably be in contact with other Elis once in a while, he's probably not going to be on of 12 in his class.

It makes me think of Eli Wiesel, whom I happen to idolize. I believe his is short for Eliezer (sp?).

My best friend soon to be ex-husband is names Elijah but goes by Eli. He is the only Eli I've known personally. It seems like that name is around but not common.

Eli is my favorite boys name! I don't know Eli's personally but I think it's becoming more popular. Of course, I do wonder if this year sparked a bunch of Eli's due to Eli Manning..hmmm.

ETA: I read your comments above I'm laughing cause it's funny how everyone thinks Eli Manning and not the prophet Elijah. I actually think the name sounds Amish, but cool Amish LOL.

I have really considered using Eli for a long time. However, I named my daughter Lily and well having an Eli and a Lily in the same family might be too much but I adore the name so much I might not be able to part with it.

Great choice! :)

Wow! Now your scaring me. Last night, I was my I was looking at my family tree and I found out that my maternal grandmother's middle name (she died when I was young and had alzheimer's I wasn't incredibly close to her but nevertheless) was Rosalia. I got so mad at my mom because it was such a beautiful name! I was like mom Lily could have been Lily Rosalia (I wasn't creative enough to come up with the name on my own apparently..lol).

We must like similar names. :)
