Fickle...

Is it just me, or do you guys ever like a name one day, and then suddenly, you really don't? I'm that way, especially with the girls names I like. Maybe it's just because it takes a lot for me to actually like a boy's name, but there are tons of girl's names that I like.

Before coming here, my favorite boy's name was Benjamin and .. that's about it. Now I've also discovered that I really love Nathaniel and Tobias as well. These three are my favorite boy's names, and I can't see them wavering much.

But the girl's ... I used to love Kiara, but I vetoed that. I loved Calandra, but now I'm not so sure. I was in love with Elaina and Layla one day, but then the next, while I still liked them, I wasn't in love with them.

I guess I'm just afraid that if/when I ever have a kid, I'll get sick of their name. But I'm sure that won't be a problem, because I'll love them so much that their name will just fit, I guess. But still.

Do you guys find that your taste in names fluctuate quite frequently, also? Or have you liked the same names for forever?

ETA: Now I'm looking at Tobias critically .. :sigh:

My taste definately fluctuates.
For example a few days ago I was dead set on Liam Jonathan and Aimee Sophia
And now I'm completely going off of Liam and I don't LOVE Aimee.

I'm the same way with being pretty set on my boy's names, but being really fickle about girl's names. I think it's cause with boys I pretty much already have 4 first names and middle names that I'm set on using (Isaac Estlin, Sebastien Atticus, Asher Phineas and Isaiah Solomon).

But with girls I just have a giant list of like, 50 names and no set middle names or anything, so I'm constantly playing around with them. Sometimes Kate will be my number one choice, and then all of a sudden I realize I really love Annik and it bumps Kate off the number one spot, and so on.

But yeah, I've basically liked the same kind of names since I was little. I loved Annika ever since the days of watching Pippi Longstockings, but then saw Control (the Joy Division movie) and heard Annik, and have loved it since then. It's like that, little mutations and changes all the time, but based on the same names and sounds that I've liked since I was younger.

Oh and I wouldn't second guess Tobias. I really like that name. I like all your boy's names actually.

Calandra either sounds like calendar or colander, neither of which are very good "noun" names.

Sometimes, yes, though it hasn't happened in a while. I used to be in love with the name Eliza, now it doesn't do much for me. I'm not sure what happened there. Bridget has been my favorite girl's name for over a decade and I'm starting to get tired of it, which saddens me.

Gahhh SAME HERE. Im actually pregnant right now, and for months Eliza was my #1 pick. Well, when we found out the baby was a girl ELiza suddenly seemed all WRONG. I kept saying it outloud and thinking that I didn't even like it. SO, we are looking at other options now.

There are three girl's names and two boy's names that I've loved for so long now that I don't see that changing anytime soon. The rest of the names are all names I love or like, depending on the day.

I don't tend to be fickle about the names that I love and hope to use someday, I'm pretty set on those. It's the names that I just kind of like that are flexible for me, and a lot of it has to do with how much I've seen the name recently.

Some days I like Sebastian, Sean, Liam, etc. Some days I don't.

I'm far more fickle with boys' names, because I really want to have boys when I do have kids. Maybe one girl. Maybe.

I think once you name your child, you adore the child so much that you won't have second thoughts about the name, like you said.

When I was younger, I really liked the names of my favorite teachers/people and thought I would name my kids after them. As I've grown and realized that they are human and have some (or sometimes many) faults, I don't like the names anymore. This might be ok, because I was dead set on naming my daughter Cynthia for years!

My other "problem" is that I get really excited about a certain type of name, like Italian names, Swedish names or literary names, but my tastes for these fluctuate quite frequently.

i've thought that exact same thing! i've wondered before if parents ever one day go "OH MY GOD WHY DID WE PICK THIS NAME?!" probably not like you said, but my tastes definitely change. moreso for girls too actually like you. i've got my boy names set and they've been the same for awhile but i hardly like any girl names for any long period of time :\

I've had the same two favorite boy's names for at least a year now - Clayton and Zane. But my girl's names change ALLLL the time...
