Mandalyn reminds me of Claire-Annette. It might sound pretty but it's a nice way of spelling an instrument. When she is introducing herself, people will hear "mandolin" until she spells it for them or writes it down on paper for them.
Same when you are hollering her name in a grocery store or at the zoo or out the back door.
I admit, it is a very pretty spelling...but the name is riding on the spelling.
Hm, Serenity is the name of a line of "bladder weakness products" (adult diapers (http://www.serenity.com/)) so it seems a little odd as a name for a person. To be honest, I don't think that's an association I'd want people to have with my name.
Autumn and Layla are both really nice, though. (I do prefer the spelling Leila, but I've heard people pronounce that as LAY-luh and as LYE-luh, so Layla certainly eliminates the confusion there.)
That's my biggest issue with Serenity too. My first thought is adult diapers. My second thought is George Costanza's dad screaming "SERENITY NOW" on Seinfeld.
It's a shame really, as I think I might like it otherwise.
Mandalyn and Ambelyna are horrible. I also hate Layla because it sounds like a stripper's name. Serenity doesn't really sit well with me, but I'm not sure why. It just doesn't sound like a name, I guess. Autumn is nice.
Mandalyn - What an awful awful made up-sounding name... I have Amanda/Manda.. & the only lyn name i likle is Caitlin...& even then i spell it differently. Keep to the Lyn as a middle name.. dont add it onto a first name. Ambelyna- Sounds like thumbelina (sp?) hate it, again. Autumn- beautiful Serenity- Uh...gosh i just dont know what to say apart from yuck! Layla- Okay.. never liked it much myself, doesnt have much substance.. bit wishy washy.. i find it annoying to say, but at least it sounds like a real name.
I'm sorry, but I think it is too risky to name someone Mandalyn or Ambelyna. Remember, even though you're having this baby, you don't know who this person is, and what they're tastes will be like. If you compare your tastes to your mother's, though, chances are, you have different ideas about what looks good/sounds good/tastes good. Your daughter will probably likewise have different tastes than you.
Everyone riskes giving their child a name they won't like, because a child can't voice an opinion yet at birth. However, you do want to maximize your child's chance of happiness with her name, and I'm afraid that those two names are too specific to your tastes and too unlikely that another person will like them/ enjoy writing them and hearing them every single day of thier lives.
Please don't give your child either of those names. Autumn, Serenity, and Layla are fine. I don't know, but maybe you would like:
most of those names i very much dislike, but thank you for sharing. Destiny is the only one i really like but i can't use it because an old friend of mine named her daughter destini. Faith is nice too, but i'd probably not use it.

I also like Autumn and Layla best.

I'd pick Leila if you used that spelling instead of Layla.

Ambelyna - I'm not even sure how to pronounce this. AmbeLIEna? AmbeLEEna? If it's Ambeleena, sounds like Thumbelina.
Layla is a great name.

thank you everyone!
Mandalyn IS from the guitar I just think it's lovely.
Ambelyna (am-bell-ina) is from a Coheed & Cambira song. It's the name of an angel and i think it's pretty.
I've never liked the spelling Leila, but at least people responded well to the name. I think that's one of the loveliest names on my list.
