I met a boy today named Kai. He said it wasn't short for anything.

WDYT?

The only way Kai is okay is if it is short for Malakai

I know several.
I think it's a bit trendy and bland to be honest.

I know one who spells it Kia, no idea how they came to the conclusion that pronounced kai..

I like it, but thats probably because I teach a little boy who goes by Kai. It's a nickname of his middle name, Makai.

I know one boy, three years old, named Kai. His father is Hawaiian. I also used to know someone with a son named Kai who lived in Norway. They wanted a name that was easily pronounced in English and Norwegian.

I think it's a good name. It has a nice meaning and sound and isn't too common. The female version, Kaia, used to be my favorite name for a long time.

My sister-in-law's dog is named Kaia. I don't let pet's ruin names for me. My cat's names are Lucy, Zinnia, and Isaac and I still think they would be a great names for a child (though probably not mine).

One of my friends recently named her daughter Ava Kai, so I think of it as a girls' name. I don't care for it on boys or girls -- it's just okay. Not great, not horrible.

I went to high school with a girl named Kai. I was always under the impression that it might have been a Jewish name (they were fairly devout), but I don't know that for sure.

Well Chai is Hebrew for life. Perhaps her Hebrew name was Chaya and Kai was the anglosized version.

Chaya is one of my favorite names, I think its sooo pretty. Shame we don't have the Hebrew "ch" sound in English.

My best friend's brother legally changed his name to Kai (he's in his 30s). His birth name was Kaizusp.

I think it means beautiful doesn't it? My hubby's ex girlfriend's name was Kailani and it meant beautiful water or something.

Kai means "ocean" or "sea" in Hawaiian.

I know three boys around my age (18) named Kai, two are Caucasian and one is Japanese. None of them are short for anything. So yeah, bit of a trend I guess.

It was my OH's top name for our son. Personally I hate it.
The only way I could justify it was if it was short for something and all I could come up with was Coyote....so yea...

It's a very popular name in Finland :>) Which is kind of funny 'cos it also means "I suppose" in Finnish.
