Franklin in an honouring name to me, and I go back and forth on whether I want to use it as a first name or put it in my family's traditional second middle name spot.
So, which boy set do you prefer
The one with Franklin as a first name:
Franklin Reuel David, Gregory Ittai Nelson, and Zachary Admiel Nathaniel
or the one with Franklin as an honouring name:
Gregory Reuel David, Zachary Admiel Franklin and Theodor Ittai Nelson
Also, do you prefer Zachary as a full name or as a nickname for Zachariah?

Date: 2008-06-17 07:26 pm (UTC)As for Zachary . . . it drives me insane to see full names being used as nicknames. For example, Nathan as a nickname for Nathaniel. It's not a nickname for Nathaniel, it's a name on its own. They're both more likely to be shortened to Nate than anything else, so why have to explain to people "He goes by Nathan as a nickname for Nathaniel, not Nate," when you could just say "He goes by Nathan, not Nate." It just makes life so much easier.
So my theory on Zachary vs. Zachariah is that if you're going to use Zach as a nickname, pick whichever one you like better. If you're going to call him Zachary, just name him Zachary, since it's a full name on its own. If it was an issue of naming him Zach or naming him Zachary, I'd say go with Zachary because the full version is always better as a given name, but since Zachary and Zachariah are on equal grounds in this regard, I'd go with the one that you're going to call him.

Date: 2008-06-18 11:57 pm (UTC)I would say Franklin was better suited as a middle name just because I don't really care for it and personally wouldn't want to use it as a first name, but I completely understand wanting to honor someone.
