I'm currently in love with the name Archer for a girl. It's always listed for boys but I can't get past it being a feminine name.

What do you think and can anyone string together a good middle name to attach with a 2-syllabal "A" last name?

Please note, obviously I am very pro-unique names.

It is most definitely way too masculine for a girl.

It's too masculine for a girl. Her nickname would be Archie.

I adore the name Archer, but it is incredibly masculine and is only a boy's name to me.

I like it and I don't think her nn would necessarily have to be Archie...It's very different as a girls name, yet seems gender neutral to me. I don't think that we should get so tied up in gendering names or even our children. Here are some suggestions... Archer Kazuno. Kazuno is Japanese girl's name and means "your peace." Archer Sonnet, Archer Maka. Maka is a Native American name, but I am unsure of the meaning. Archer Lennon... I always thought Lennon was a beautiful name for a girl. Archer Lyric, Archer Madrah, Archer Justice.

I think if you're really stuck on Archer there are a few things you should do:
1. Give her a feminine middle. In case she resents the masculinity of her first name, she can always go by her middle.
2. Avoid middles that start with R, E, I, and Y so to minimize the potential for "Archery" jokes.

A few suggestions:
Archer Juliet
Archer Lenore
Archer Michele
Archer Celeste

I don't personally like the name (more because I don't like occupation names than because it's a boys' name though) but if you love it for a girl I agree that a feminine middle name is important. It should also be one that you like enough that if she really turns out to be a girly girl or hates Archer, she could go by without you being too upset by that!

I know that most of the time people don't know middle names, but I find that the times that you do give your middle name is on official things where they get your name without having met you, like resumes. Or at least, if she really wanted to stress that she was female, she could always put "Archer Catherine ___" (for example) on whatever she was applying to. With a feminine name middle name it doesn't sound all that masculine at all. When I was doing my honours thesis, I was recruiting from a participant pool of students, and most of them were female... so when I had a male sounding name on my list I was very excited because I wanted as close to an equal amount of males and females as possible. I had one person come up whose name was Ryan Alex ____, and it was a girl. To me that stressed the importance of having something distinguish the gender -- or at least, not something that looks SO much like the opposite gender that you would assume they were... at least giving someone two unisex names (e.g. Taylor Morgan) leaves you guessing....whereas Ryan Alex really sounded like a guy to me.

Sorry to go off on a tangent, but that is my real-life example of the importance of middle names when giving an ambiguously-gendered first name :p

Archer was one of my favorite girls' names when I was in high school. No other input.

I'd go with something classically feminine for a middle name (and I'm pro using names you love regardless of gender:)

Archer Jane
Archer Elizabeth
Archer Marie
Archer Catherine
Archer Eliza
Archer Victoria
Archer Alexandra
Archer Valentina
Archer Isabell/a
Archer Sophia
Archer Michelle
Archer Rose
Archer Nicole
Archer Amelia
Archer Emily
Archer Margaret
Archer Cordelia
Archer Caroline
Archer Evangeline
Archer Emmaline
Archer Rebecca
Archer Annabell

I don't mind boy names on girls, but I'm just not a fan of Archer.
Anyway...as some people have suggested already, I would go with a feminine middle name if I were you:

Archer Selene
Archer Esme
Archer Elora
Archer Leah
Archer Elyse
Archer Lilia
Archer Maeve
Archer Lydia
Archer Noelle

Good luck!

I like it. What about Archer Grace?

I like it as well. I'd go with something 1 syllable for the middle name, so it's not too much of a mouthful.

ive never really thought about that name, although i dont tend to like occupation names - hunter, tanner, etc.

picturing a little girl named archer made me smile, though. i can completely picture it on a little blonde haired, blue eyed tomboy of a girl.

i would go with something very feminine for a middle name, such as grace or elisabeth.

i say go for it!

Well, I mean Taylor used to be a boys name and now it's an exclusively girls name. I think it could be used for a girl.

Archer Danielle
Archer Aurora
Archer Anabelle
Archer Louise
Archer Christine
Archer Grace
Archer Lynne
Archer Dawn
Archer Sophia
Archer Ruth
Archer Kathleen

I agree with the poster above who said if you love a name you should use it...it will mean more to your child that you used a name that you were fond of than a name that you were lukewarm about.

Taylor is not exclusively a girl's name. It's still pretty popular for boys.

I should have said "almost" exclusively. My bad. :) I like Taylor as a boy's name actually but I almost never hear it as one (at least not around here)

I actually know a female Archer and the name fits her very well. She is probably around 20 years old now. However, i don't know her middle name.

Maybe:

Archer Eloise
Archer Madeleine
Archer Danielle
Archer Simone
Archer Samantha
Archer Violet
Archer Juliet
Archer Cassandra
