[identity profile] notmybusiness.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
So today I was looking up a person in our database at work and came across a woman named Okla. Her middle name is Homa. Okla Homa. How awful is that? And, yes, she does live in Oklahoma.

Also, I used to work for a local Girls Club and there was a little girl named Sparkle. I was constantly forgetting her name and calling her Glitter or Shimmer. Same thing, right?

Sparkle - that's so bizarre. Why would anyone name their child Sparkle? It sounds like a cartoon character's name.

There was a Sparkle in my high school. Rumor had it that her parents got the name from a porn star that they liked. Classy, right?

I read in a baby name book once that you should try your child's name out will all sorts of titles and professions. For example: "I'm Dr. Sparkle Montgomery, your husband's thoracic surgeon. He's going to be just fine", "Good to meet you. Sparkle-- lemme tell you what's wrong with your car", "Introducing Madame President, Sparkle Montgomery".

While repetition makes this almost sound like a name, it's hard to imagine Sparkle arguing a landmark civil rights case or pumping my gas.

I will allow someone else to make a joke about what they can imagine her pumping.

Sparkle is my #1 name choice... for dogs. Why would anyone give it to a human?

Cause she's SPARKLY! No, just kidding. Horrible name.
I'm from Oklahoma, and that name makes me put my hands over my eyes and shake my head in sadness.
Oklahoma, where the wind comes sweeping down the plains...

I knew a girl called Sasha Sparks and I thought it was a sick name...but not as a first name.

Maybe Sparkle's parents were paper towel enthusiasts? I bet she had a brother named Brawny.

Okla Homa is bad, but at least it's not Sparkle. That's what I say.

I wonder if Okla changed her own name to Okla Homa, if not, her parents were MEAN.

Sparkle is cute....... for a pink cuddly teddy bear.

Sparkle is pretty bad. But I think Okla Homa is worse than that.
