What does everyone think of the name Mae?

Trendy and cutesy or classic and timeless?

I think classic. I love it, and am considering using it (for a middle name).

it's one of my best friends' middle name..her name is Elizabeth May. her mom meant to spell it Mae but was so out of it after the 26 hour labor that she just put May on the birth certificate, lol

it's still an adorable name, in my opinion!

I like Mae. I plan on using a variation of it as a middle name. I've never considered it trendy, but I do consider it classic and cute.

It's ok. It was my grandma's name. I like it more spelled May and only as a fn. I don't really like how it sounds as a mn. Combos often sound a little too backwoods to me, if you know what I mean.

Mae is alright but a) it'll get misspelled and b) i'm not fond of names that are months (or that sound like months)

Just don't pair it with Irma or anything else old fashioned.

I think it's classic but I don't like it at all.

classic and timeless.

I've never been all too fond of it but Mum liked it enough to stick my little sister with it (Rebecca Mae)

I like Mae better as a middle name.

I'll use Mae for a middle name when I have a daughter. I think it's classic and timeless.

Neither: plain and hillbilly-ish. ;)

For real though, it makes me think of hillbilly names like Susie Mae or Nellie Mae etc.

I can't decide. I sort of like it as a middle name, as it is one of those names that will go with anything... but it's too short & sharp for a first name.
I think Classic & timeless.. like Grace- but it could get trendy!

My great-grandmother's name was May. Her granddaughter (my aunt) was given the middle name Mae in her honor. So both are family names for me.

However, to me, the spelling does change the feel of the name quite a bit. May is a lovely classic, very fresh and innocent and flower-like. I imagine a little girl in white dress in an old sepia photograph. Changing the spelling to Mae makes it look a little more ordinary, a little more dated. So I don't much care for it with the -e.

classic and timeless.

and like everyone else: i think
it does better as a middle name.

I hate it. But then, I hate most three letter names, seeing as my first name has 3 letters and my middle name has 3 letters.

what is your name?

[identity profile] so-there.livejournal.com 2006-02-10 12:01 pm (UTC)(link)
well, my boss is a widower and his daughter just had a baby and named her Erin Mae. he told me Mae was the middle name of his late wife (he and she were both friends of my parents in college, so I thought that was neat) so I'm gonna go with timeless on this one.

I love May (family name) and definitely plan on using it as a middle name. I think it's timeless and just gorgeous. =)

timeless and pretty. my maternal grandmothers name was mary, but went by mae her entire life, and even has mae on her headstone. its a great name, love it.
