My finace insists on pronouncing it MY-ev. He says that the only time he's heard the name used was in some gaming thinger-ma-bobber and that's how the person using the name pronounced it. He doesn't care that it's incorrect and refuses to say it differently.
I told him that I'm not giving our child a name that we don't pronounce the same way across the board and I'm certainly not agreeing to pronounce it incorrectly just because that's what he prefers. It's a name that's likely to be mispronounced often enough without us screwing with it further.
Instead our chosen girl's name for the next baby (whenever that happens) is Abigal. Much easier ;)
I really like it. I first heard (I guess saw... but I heard it in my head) Maeve in a book I read several years ago. The main character's birth mother, or some kind of ancestor, I believe.
I've seen it a few times lately, and I just don't like it. Maybe it's because I went to school with a Maeve who was very homely, quiet, and awkward, but it's not an attractive name for me, and not one that makes me think positive things about the person with that name. It's just sort of blah-- flat and old, like Maude and mauve.
Wow, I am passionate about the apathy "Maeve" makes me feel.
