My husband and I are having our first baby. We're having the eternal struggle of names we both like!

So far we have Sophia (my husband likes the derivation from the Greek "wisdom," as he is a philosopher)

and I chose Davis for a boy, an old surname from my mother's side.

What do you think for middle names?? I can't think of any.

I really like Sophia. I don't really like Davis as a first name, but it could definitely be worse, and I like the meaning behind it.

I'd go with something slightly more unique/less common as a middle name for Sophia and something slightly more common/more of a given name as a middle for Davis. Without knowing your last name, how about . . .

With Davis as a first name, I'd definitely go with something that you wouldn't mind calling your son by if he decided to go by his middle name. Davis isn't bad, and it could always get shortened to Dave, but he might dislike having a surname as a first name, so I'd definitely give him another option, or use Davis as the middle name.

I really like both, though -- especially Sophia.

ha, the Sophia suggestions were interesting, as Christine is my middle name! And my husband's middle name is "Lee," taken from his grandfather's name, Leo! So that suggestion for Davis was also neat.
