Hubby and I have been having a day long discussion on what to name our daughter....and we found a name we liked that neither of us had mentioned before.

Amelia

What are everyones thoughts? Is it very very popular? What middle names would sound good with it?

Thanks for your help!

first of all, JESS AND RORY.

second, Amelia is 77 on the social security list. I love the name. I imagine a cute, smart little girl but I don't think that it's necessarily a "little girl" name. Some people associate it with the books, Amelia Bedelia, but I don't.

definitely. I'm still a little disappointed that they didn't end up together.

It's not UNPOPULAR, but it's not trendy in the same way that Madison, Ava, Isabella, etc. are. Your daughter definitely is not going to be the ONLY Amelia you ever come into contact with, but she's not going to be one of 5 in her Kindergarten class like she would be as Ava or Emma or something.

I love it -- it's one of my favorites.

Amelia Joanne
Amelia Juliet
Amelia Catherine
Amelia Margaret
Amelia Eleanor
Amelia Genevieve
Amelia Jillian
Amelia Rachael
Amelia Danielle
Amelia Michelle
Amelia Natalie
Amelia Isabel
Amelia Esme
Amelia Rose

All of those names are gorgeous, but I really don't think it's going to make that much of a difference. Like I said, Amelia is definitely not going to be a 5-in-one-class kind of popular, but take it from a Lindsay born in the 80s -- it's really not the end of the world to have a popular name!

A Katie born in the 80s agrees (I was mostly just amused that there were three other Katies in my math class in high school, and we all sat in the same corner =P).

I love Amelia even though it's become very popular lately. I've always liked the nickname "Millie" for it too.

Also, I have to reiterate the Jess/Rory love. They should've totally ended up together.

I think it's very pretty and feminine. :)

I love this name, although I do think it is becoming significantly more popular recently. It's one of the few names that doesn't make me like it less even when everyone's using it.

Amelia seems pretty popular right now, but not insanely so. It's a beautiful name anyway.

I'm going to disagree with everyone here and say that it is one of my least favorite names.

Amelia is quite popular where I am - it was number 10 in the UK last year. Personally, I prefer Amalia to Amelia.

I've previously paired it with Emmeline, but now I like it with Raisa and Reina.

Middle name ideas:
Reina
Raisa
Emmeline
Johanna
Liviana
Sariah

I love that name, and if I'm having a girl (but I have a gut feeling it is a boy), I would love to name her that.

My husband is stupid though, and everytime I suggest Amelia, he shouts, BEDILA!!!!! Seriously, he thinks, "let's think of names" means "let's think of every single association I could possibly ever have with every single name, k?"

i love it. its not that popular, at all, imo. its not popular enough to be crossed off the list. its like catherine, to me, kind of. its common but not trendy or overused, its a classic.

It is popular according to the ssa and in this comm it's been popular.
However, I've never met an Amelia of any age.

It's our number 2 name (I actually like it slightly better than our number one, Eleanor, but hey we all gotta comprimise).

I love Amelia! My husband's ex-wife is named Amy though, so that kind of it killed it as a possible baby name for us.

I think Emma Amelia is pretty.

Amelia was my favourite name for such a long time, but it's reached the dizzying heights of number 10 for 2007.
I assume you're American? If so then Amelia was ranked 77 in 2007, I predict it will definitely get more popular, but not so that if the aspect of popularity bothers you, you should discard it.

I wish I could use it!!

I much prefer the nickname Mia to Millie.

I coach an absolutely adorable little girl named Amelia, the first one I've ever met. I love the name and the girl!

I think it's very popular; I know of four Amelias that go to my school, three different spellings and one goes by Mia.
