Is the name Alice?

I know where it is on the social security list, but I was surprised. It seemed more popular than being 300-something.

I've never met a single person named Alice. That could just mean that I haven't met very many people.

Me neither, but I've met someone named Alyce, pronounced the same way.

I know approximately 3 people named Alice. But I met them all at camp...and I always meet tons of people with names I've never heard on anyone else before when I'm at camp. Alice, Gillian, Margot...there's billions of them at camp, and NONE in real life.

...I don't think this was much help.

I'm not surprised. I know one Alice, my grandma. I think the name Allison is currently more popular.

It's not popular. I know one Alice. She was born in 1920.

Well, you have to rate popularity in two ways: take the numbers of births from this decade and combine them, and do the same with the percentages- it gives a more accurate depiction of popularity than just looking at the name's rank on a singular list.

But that particular name I would say is popular, but only in an ordinary way. It's not insane like Madison, Isabella, or Ava, so you're good.

I've never met anyone named Alice.
I sort of thought it was getting more popular though.

I've never met one either, but I'm pretty fond of that name.

I think it's more popular among this community because classic, old fashioned names tend to be more popular among people here than in the world as a whole.

I love Alice, but I've only ever met one person named that.

I think it's popular around this community, but not so much in the world in general.

My daughters name is Alice, :) she is 18 months. I have met two other Alices and they were both friends of my grandma. My husband and I both love Alice in wonderland. So it was an easy pick for us.

I think that while the SS lists are interesting, they really tell us nothing about the popularity of any given name within a community, or a certain demographic. I think that's really more of an indication how many "Alice"s are going to be in your neighborhood than anything else, although those are impossible statistics to gather.

My instinct is that Alice is really popular with a certain type of urban, upper-middle class, artsy or "hipster" crowd (and no slight meant, I'm in that demographic).
