Unique spellings
Jun. 11th, 2008 09:31 amFirst, these are real names of real people~I promise I didn't make them up! I had to look at them twice and I wonder if they hate their parents.
Two names I have seen recently at work:
Khynedy ~ 4 year old girl, pronounced Kennedy
Khrymsyn ~ 50+ year old woman pronounced like the color Crimson

Where I work, we spell every name with all capital letters so they looked even more odd to me. KHYNEDY and KHRYMSYN. I seriously had to concentrate on how to pronounce them.
I think both names cross the "line." I don't mind the name Kennedy for a girl, it's not my favourite and not my style, but I don't think it's horrible. However, when the spelling is so far removed from what is considered "normal" or "correct" like that....that's a form of cruelty! And Khrymsyn?? I don't think so. I know Fuchsia is becoming more popular as a name, but I can't see Crimson making the list of color names. Again, that spelling is criminal. What were these parents thinking??

Date: 2008-06-11 03:02 pm (UTC)When I was about 12, I used to make 'simple' names as long as possible, to see how far I could go. Thus, I came up with Khyhm (Kim).
I suppose Crimson's parents did the same. And used it.
