[identity profile] sophie-louise89.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
Okay  so I posted a while ago telling you all that my friend had twins. Scarlett (f) and River (m) .. and most of you argued that River sounds better on a girl. Well.. 2 days ago I found out that he is actually a she. My Bad.
So the twin GIRLS full names are:

Scarlett Nola & River Elizabeth.

Edit: I forgot to say.. when my brother heard the names he thought of a couple of jokes that basically ruined it for the poor mother. At first he was calling them the 'fever' twins - (Scarlett Fever and Ross River Fever) Then he pointed out that some people refer to 'that time of the month' as your 'scarlett river'
OH GOD. has something like this ever happened to you?

I don't like Nola and I don't like Elizabeth much with River, but I LOVE Scarlett and River.

a lot of people thought river sounds better on a girl? it definitely sounds better on a boy, imo

Oh geeze. Scarlett will definitely get "Scarlet Fever" a lot, but "scarlet river" is so much worse. Encourage the parents to introduce them as "River and Scarlett" instead of as "Scarlett and River"?

They actually sound very pretty together.

I'd say it's a boy's name, but I always think of River Phoenix.

Scarlett River is an awful combination. :(

Scarlett Nola is lovely, but is that a coincidence, or are the parents Woody Allen fans? Somebody warn that baby that any affair she carries on with a married man is going to end badly:

I thought that too.

Scarlett is popular now to the point of being boring, and River, if it has to be a name, is a boy's name. So yeah, I can't say I'm a fan.

Who the hell said River sounds better on a girl? Because I'd like to smack them.

Scarlett Nola is gorgeous, but River is horrendous, boy or girl, but is definitely worse on girls.

Oh no... Scarlett River is terrible. I wouldn't worry too much about the both being fevers because that's likely to just be a passing joke, but if people catch on to scarlet river then that's really bad... feel sorry for the mum that she only figured it out after someone else pointed it out. I agree with the person who suggested that she should always introduce them as River and Scarlett.... although it would be hard to explain that to the girls if they ever ask why ;)

River sounds so masculine compared to Scarlett. I would like it so much more if River were a girl.

Your brother kinda does have a point :D

I myself don't like the names, the only one I don't mind is Elizabeth, if it weren't such a filler middle name.

I also would have sworn up and down that River was a boy's name.
Taylor Hanson has a son named that (River Samuel)

WOW. The connection did not occur to me, so hopefully it won't to others in the 15-and-under set. *cringe*

I don't like the name River, much less for a girl because it rings so masculine, but at least she has a feminine middle name to fall back on. I like Scarlett, but not sure how I feel on Nola... I've never heard of it; sounds like a cross between Lola and Nolan.

I've never heard a period referred to as a 'scarlet river' - or at least not by anyone under the age of 25. I don't think it's something these kids will have to deal with much in their peer groups. Kids are maturing much more rapidly, and don't seem to have many qualms about using words like "sex" and "period" anyway, so I think that, if anyone, it'll be the adults that come up with the unfortunate association. Like your brother, for example... or the adults in this community.

I really like those names, actually!

Ah, stupid jokes! I don't think I would make them, I'd feel too bad for the mother ;)
