I work at Dairy Queen, and we write things on cakes for people if they wish. There were a couple names that we had which struck me as different, or not heard of very often:

Shyla (which I think is kind of cute)
Nola (I like this one, even though it reminds me of Nolan, which is not a favorite of mine).
Gill (pronounced like Jill. I know that Gillian is a way of spelling Jillian, but it just looks odd to me, and I had never met/heard of anyone named that prior).

 WDYT?

My sister has a dog named Shyla... =/

Gillian was #2 on our list for girl names, but people kept saying that we should spell it Jillian so that the nickname Jill would work--Gill looked too odd to them. My husband and I didn't like that spelling though, so we axed it.. in retrospect, I almost wished we had used it.

Well, if you want to get technical, Jillian is actually a way of spelling Gillian.

Nola just reminds me of New Orleans.

How odd, I allways viewed Gill/Gillian as the "normal" spelling.

I think Nola is nice 8D.

I knew someone who was MEAN named Shilah. So it ruins it for me.
Nola I see as New Orleans, too. Gill reminds me of either Vince Gill or a fish's gills.

Nola is one of my top names, although it now unfortunately shares the name of Scarlett Johansson's doomed character in Match Point.

Gillian is another favorite of mine, recently added to the list, and I'm still undecided about a nickname. Gill makes the most sense, of course, but...Gill?

I know someone named Gillian who spells her nickname Jill so it won't be pronounced with a hard G. It looks weird as Gill.
Shyla looks very hickish to me.
Nola just makes me think of Match Point.

Nola was the name of a very old lady who used to be my neighbor when I was young, I have a bit of a soft spot for it.

And I have an Aunty Gill [spelt as such, not Jill].
Not short for Gillian, just Gill!

Ooh, I like Shyla. Very pretty sound.

Shyla looks like it's missing a letter, probably because I know a Shayla.
