ok since oliver is out of the running (so sad) because the boy really dislikes it, i have had an extremely difficult time finding another boys name that i love as much. so far, i havent had any luck falling in love with anything else.

however, i really like the nickname nate.

what do you guys think, nathan or nathaniel? i am leaning toward nathaniel, because it sounds best with the middle name, which will be john. i also think it sounds classier and less nerdy. but my ex's name is daniel, who is a very very bad man. that -niel relation just popped into my head.

what say you?

I love the name Nathaniel. I plan using it myself. It's nicer than Nathan, I think. Plus I know a Nathan that was a holy terror, so I can't use it.

I prefer it with the 'iel'. Other possible versions of Nat- names like Nat(h)anel (without the i), elinat(h)an, elnat(h)an, avinat(h)an, or combine it with the middle name to make Jo(h)nathan.

I like Nathaniel more than Nathan, but I just like the name Nate. Nate is towards the top of my list.

I think both sound really nice and I love Nate. However, if your ex's last name is Daniel, I'd go with Nathan to avoid the connotation.

I think Nathaniel is infinitely nicer than Nathan, which I think is ugly. Nate is cool.

I prefer Nathan to Nathaniel, but Nathaniel does sound loads better with John. I really like Nate, too, but that might just be because I love Kate, and they rhyme. But, anyway, I do like Nathaniel John, even if I do prefer Nathan to Nathaniel.

I love Nathaniel with the nick name Nate.
I wish my husband liked it, but he has to be obtuse.

In regards to Nathaniel and Daniel I do not think they sound too similar and besides you are going to call him Nate frequently anyhow which is not like Daniel at all.

I love Nathaniel, and I like Nathan.

I don't think Nathaniel & Daniel sound that similar, but if you think that if you name your kid Nathaniel you will always be reminded of your ex, then maybe it isn't a good idea (I don't think you will though...a nice connotation usually overshadows the bad one, when it comes to names).

I usually prefer 2 syllable names, but I prefer Nathaniel if you are going to use the middle name John.

If you think you're going to be reminded of your ex, you probably will. Don't use the name if you're uncomfortable with the "niel" connection.

I love Nathaniel! It's actually one of the top first names I would use(second only to Benjamin). Nathan, I don't like so much. But, if the name makes you think of your ex, then that's not so good :-/ so if you like both, maybe you should go with Nathan.

You can spell it "Nathanael" more like the ending of Michael (maybe you know a Michael you like?!). I like that better than Nathan if the middle is going to be John.

I've yet to meet a Nathan that I haven't despised so I'd definitely pick Nathaniel!!
