I'm not pregnant, i just like names.

What do you think of the boy name Laurence and a nickname from that being Laurie? Do you think it sounds too feminine?

I personally don't think it sounds feminine, but I was brought up knowing the story of Little Women. My mother's name is Laurie, and I would like to name a child after her some day, but I would like for it to be a boy. I really like the name Laurence and I think Laurie could be neat. However, I'm not opposed to just using Laurence and losing the whole Laurie idea altogether.

Any thoughts?

I love this idea, but I'm sure there will be loads who disagree! But I figure if boys can be named Leslie and Tracy and Evelyn, Laurie is fine. And I think it's nice and classy and warm!

hmm. It might be okay as a pet name without being an official nn. By that I mean, something you call him affectionately but not something that he writes on his papers at school. Like my name is Rachel and my parents used to call me "Rach" but that's not a nn I would have used officially, of course. It sounds cutesy for parents to use, but I don't think I'd encourage others to use it b/c if he adapts it as his name, he'll probably get made fun of a LOT later. It DOES sound very feminine to me (I even hated it when I read and watched Little Women lol).

The name Lawrence itself I like very much, though.

I know one Laurence, who just goes by his full name, and I know a Laurie (but it might be spelt Lorrie, not sure). It's not too femenine in my opinion. The boy Laurie is actually official called Laurie ie it isn't short for Lawrence.
I personally really like the name Laurence (can also be spelt Lawrence), but my name is Lauren so it would be really tacky and confusing if I named my son Laurence!

I have mixed feelings about Lawrence but I really like the name Laurie. The only Laurie I knew was an annoying arsehole but still, it's a nice name.

I've known a few guys named Loren/Lauren and they were all really nice, but Laurences usually end up with the nick name Larry, which I don't care for nearly as much. To me Loren sounds like the masculine version, sort of like Don and Dawn.

Before you even mentioned Little Women, that's exactly what I thought of! I love the name Laurence, and I don't think Laurie is too feminine at all. I quite like it. =)

My grandfather was born in the 1920s and his mother read Little Women while she was pregnant. She named him Laurence, and he was known as Laurie his whole life! I think its a wonderful name, adorable nn.

I love the name Laurie for a boy and I am pretty sure it's because of Little Women, lol :)
