I'm going to put this behind a cut.... but here are the top 10 names from the last 11 decades! (as in, 2007, 1997, 1987, 1977, 1967, 1957, 1947, 1937, 1927, 1917 and 1907).

Which decade's names do you like the best? Which do you like the least? :) For interest's sake, let us know which decade you were born in too.

I was born in 1988-my name is one of the top tens: Nicole

I think I like 2007's names best. I love Jacob and William for boys, and Sophia and Olivia for girls.

My least favorite names would have to be from 1947, especially the girl's names.

As for me, I am born in the 80s... and my favourite generation seemed to be 1917. I liked John, James, Joseph, Thomas, Anna, Elizabeth, Dorothy and Ruth.

I also liked 1957 only for the boys - James, David, John, Thomas and Mark.

I seemed to like 1997 the least - only liked Christopher and Andrew.

1917 has more names that are actually on my list for girls. The names I like are Anna, Elizabeth, Frances, Helen and Margaret (the last two aren't on my list though).
For boys the list would be 1907 with these names as ones I like: William, James, George, Joseph, Frank, Henry (Frank, George, William and Joseph are the only ones on my list though).

I was born in 1983 and my name is in the top ten for that decade. Urgh. I hate popular names, it's irritating having three other girls in your class with your name.

Yeah I find boys' names pretty frustrating in general. It seems like people have limited their choices so much over the years that the overall name pool that people know of is much smaller. Obviously a lot of people these days hated that too, and thought they were picking really unique different names, but then they all happened to pick Jayden.

So even though I would like an unusual sort of name, I don't want it to be trendy or dated, and it's much harder to do that with boys than with girls.

I suppose it doesn't matter though- my husband hates 100% of boys names lol and I'm pretty sure he'll only like fairly standard ones if he ever can make up his mind on one. The only one he actually likes is Mark, but he has a cousin with that exact name (surname too) so that would be a bit weird. I do really like the boring names actually - they just sound strong and classic and have stood the test of time.... but, they are pretty boring and common. Such a shame!

It's interesting how in the first five I only liked girls' names and in the last one I only liked boys' names.
