First off, I enjoy rather unusual names with obscure references which shall probably become evident quite soon ;)

So for boys' names, I'm pretty much set on

Alaric Edmund
Nicodemus Felix
Jude Evander or maybe Evander Jude

For girls, my top few are

Stelmaria
Jocasta
Ursula
Elanor

-but I don't know how to combine them, none of them sound good together, are there any middle name or combo suggestions for these?

And finally, are they too out-there? Are there any immediate and/or negative connotations that stand out?

Unusual names aren't my style, but I do like Jude and Ursula.

Nothing immediately negative stands out.

hmm..i think nicodemus might be a little too out there. i think the other boy's name are fine. you could always use nico instead of nicodemus or switch it with felix.

as for the girl's names, i only like elanor (although i've never seen it spelled that way). ursula will probably always habe negative connotations (at least in the US) and the others are very unusual. you could possibly break up stelmaria into stella and maria?

Ursula--evil octopus-sorceress.
Stelmaria--snow leopard daemon.
Nicodemus--rat.
Jude--Beatles.

I can't believe no one has called shenanigans on Jocasta. Yes, naming your child after the incestuous centre of what is probably the best-known psychological concept in the Western world is both an immediate negative connotation and too out-there. Please don't do that.

That said, Elanor is adorable, and a far more reasonable literary reference.

My little cousins name is Jude.
And so is one of my father's friends.

They're both really neat people.

I like all of them except for Elanor (simply because, no matter the legitimate reasons for picking the spelling, you're dooming her to a lifetime of eternal "No, with only one A. No, it's the last syllable. Here, let me just write it out for you!! ARRRGH").

I agree. I would stick with Elanor as a middle name.

I like Jude, Edmund and Felix for boys. And Eleanor for girls - but only with this spelling.

Stelmaria reminds me of Stigmata, not good in my opinion.
I'm not sure it's even a legitimate name, where did you find it?

Jocasta is okay, I like the Greek myth origin but don't find the name attractive myself.

Ursula is so incredibly ugly, and I do think of the evil Little Mermaid Character.

Elanor. I guess you're a LOTR fan? i think it's a bit pretentious to spell it this way to be honest.

Your boys names are great though.

Okay, reading comments I now recall seeing Stelmaria in His Dark Materials.

Doesn't make it any prettier though. I love those books, and the immediate name refernce that springs to mind for me is Serefina.

Not that it matters much, but Stelmaria reminds me of starfish, which I don't like (Stella meaning star, and Maria meaning seas).

I hate the name Ursula, so much.
I do like Elanor though. Jocasta is alright, but not my style.

i like alaric, felix, and jude.

nicodemus makes me think of nicoderm, which is a stop smoking gum or patch or something? thats all i saw when i first saw the name. i like nico though.

i like stella, but not stelmaria. and eleanor spelled correctly.

I love Alaric and Evander. I love Elanor, because of the Lord of the Rings reference. :D

I would stay away from Ursula and Jocasta. Too many negative connotations.

Jude Evander is quite nice, the others are just so-so in my opinion. I do like the name Felix, but not so much in conjunction with Nicodemus.

Stelmaria and Jocasta sound made up (in my opinion). Ursula just reminds me of the fat ugly witch-octopus in Little Mermaid. Elanor, I really don't like that spelling, but Eleanor I love.

Whoa. In that case, I take back my approval of it! I only like it when it's said the way it was said for thousands of baby boys in the past and am generally against using a name/spelling that will make everybody *THINK* they know how to spell/say it... but not.

Evander is on my list, as an extention of Evan (which is a family name).
It is also the former King in the books Eragon/Eldest I think??
