[identity profile] omfg----hxc.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames

The little girl I babysit for was talking about her friends. One was named Eloise who just got a brother named Orson. I love Eloise and kinda like Orson but would never use it.

Eloise is my favorite name ever.
I don't care for Orson.

I was watching Orson Welles' Macbeth today, and I was actually thinking about the name Orson, and whether I could ever use it or not. I think that if I ever did, it would be the middle name. And the only reason that I'd ever use it would be for Orson Welles.

I guess that it's just me, but I don't really like Eloise. It just sounds so...rich, French, and pretentious. Those all come to mind. Obviously, not everybody with that name/who likes that name fits those adjectives, but that's what I think. And I just don't like the sound of it.

With a French speaking background, Orson just makes me think of teddy bears and comes across as too cutesy.

Eloise is fine, but I don't love it or anything.

There was a morning cartoon that came on after Garfield. I have no idea what the name of it was, but the name of the pig was Orson. And that's all I can think of when I hear the name.
